The armory was completed in 1940 and it quickly became known as “The Gunsite” due to its many gun stores, classrooms, and pistols Offices located inside! After World War II ended, Mayor Coleman Young decided that we need more Arsenals so he ordered the construction of another one! This armory is still in use today as Police Headquarters!! The Miami Gardens Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1934. The first meeting of the club was held at the home of Mrs. Alice Biles. The first president of the club was Fenton C. Prather, who served for two years. In 1937, Hemanus Jansen became president of the club and remained in that position until his death in 1951. During Jansen's presidency, new rifle stocks were developed and installed on many rifles used by members of the Miami Gardens Rifle and Pistol Club. The following year, 1938, saw the inauguration of Mr. Everett Ewart as president of the club effective January 1st, 1939- a period that is remembered by many members as one of great prosperity for the Miami Gardens Rifle & Pistol Club due to its numerous membership dues payments made during that time frame! Everett Ewart would continue serve as president until his death in 1984; during this time he helped create what is now known as "the Shooting Hall", which is located adjacent to Marlinspirit Park off Southern Boulevard (just east of Wexford Avenue). This structure has been utilized by both NRA Saturday morning events and summer season shoots/competitions since it opened in 1984!
Miami Gardens is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 547,736 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Miami-Dade County and one of its five counties. The metropolitan area has a population of 2,641,331. The first people to live on this land were the Timucua Indians who hunted and gathered fruits and vegetables near what is now Overtown. They named their land "Miamisana" meaning "place where there are no trees". This name may be derived from Arawakan words meaning "broad bottom", or maybe because there were few trees hereabouts? A group of Spanish colonists led by Alonso Olivero discovered the area in 1565 while exploring new lands in Southwest Florida. They named it Villa de la Concepción y las Terres del Rosario (Villa of Conception and the Lands of ROSARIO), after Saint Catherine of Alexandria who had been martyred thereabouts some years earlier. In 1614 Diego Velázquez called this place Santiago de los Caballeros de Santiago de Cuba (Santiago de los Caballeros from Spain). Soon after that name was changed to Miami because King Philip II thought it would make an excellent military base for his colony in South America should he ever invade that part of Mexico! In 1795 José Higuera established Fort San Francisco Xavier on present day Roosevelt Road Northwest in what is now Little Havana – then part of Spanish Miami – as part of efforts to control runaway slaves living among white settlers in the region. On January 1st 1813 over 140 enslaved Africans under Captain John Covington took refuge inside Fort San Francisco Xavier when British warships arrived off Miami Beach following War with Spain over Louisiana interests north of Cuba; they were successfully saved by American Volunteers under Lieutenant Colonel James Wilkinson before being put into slavery at La Jolla Cove outside Fort San Francisco Xavier which continued until 1848 when all slaves within two miles (3 km) radius were ordered destroyed by order Mexican President Antonio López De Santa Anna pursuant to Proclamation No. 25 which became effective December 31st 1823.. This actions helped start the endofthe slave trade within our borders-and indirectly started American colonization

Miami Gardens is located in Miami-Dade County, Florida and was founded on November 10, 1922. The community was named after the Miami River which flows through it. It is a census-designated place (CDP) with a population of 93,967 as of 2010. The area that would become Miami Gardens was first settled by African Americans in the late 1800s. Some of these settlers were indentured servants who worked for white landowners in what is now South Beach and cultural attractions such as Dadeland Park date back to this time period. In 1907, entrepreneur James M. Heaton opened the first American restaurant in what is now Downtown Miami Gardens and soon began importing Italian cuisine from Italy. This influx of business led to an increased demand for housing and land around the area which became known as "The Fells". On October 9, 1922, voters elected Dr. George Loyd Prentice as Mayor of Miami Gardens following the election of Mayor Charles Haddon Berry Jr., who had been appointed by Governor John Lawler pursuant to § 5(a) of the Municipal Code at that time. At that time, City Regulations established seven wards within city limits with a mayor being elected at-large to serve all seven wards; however due to Dr. Prentice's successful mayoral campaign and vote count among other things - he only served four terms before stepping down effective February 1, 1933 - he was reelected unopposed as Mayor on November 3, 1932 without serving any further term due to term limitation provisions set forth under then-Article XIII Section 2(b)(1) of the City Charter at that time). On January 15th, 1933 Dr. Prentice's brother Leroy died suddenly aged 58 years old from a heart attack caused by overwork during his brother’s final days leading up to his inauguration so Dr.-George took over active management from there on out until his death on May 3rd 1943 at age 79 years old although he continued to be heavily involved politically until his death nine months later having once again served as Chairman emeritus or “ elder statesman” both locally and statewide during those early years prior thereto...City Regulations established six wards within city limits with two mayors being elected annually each while one ward saw no mayoral election because its seat/voting berth was shared between two members or committees alternatelly rendering it vacant during any given year...By 1935 all but two (6 outta 11) wards had their corresponding mayors...In 1937 Commissioner Jules Villemure announced plans for annexation of portions north and east side including parts southside bounded by Fifth Ave N & NE First St & NW 6th Ave which included much part today called MidtownMiami Gardens; annexed accordingly plan coming into effect March 1st 1938 reverting back downtown charter autonomy thereby creating CDP boundaries currently extant today
