Miami Gardens, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 753,746 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Miami-Dade County after Doral and home to many high-end businesses and luxury condominiums. As one of South Florida's oldest cities, it has experienced significant growth since its incorporation in 1901. The first settlers in what would become Miami Gardens were farmers who arrived from New England around 1800. After several years of settlement, they voted to incorporate as a city on December 2, 1901. At that time, there were just a few hundred residents living hereabouts. In 1903, the Miami–Dade Electric Railway was completed and began serving the city. This new development led to rapid growth for the city – by 1907 it had reached 1,000 citizens! The early 20th century saw another period of great growth for Miami Gardens with the opening of numerous stores and restaurants such as Colony Cafe and Harry’s Place Bistro. In 1916 City Commissioners decided to rename the area “Miami Gardens” after President Woodrow Wilson’s birthplace in Virginia Beach which had been renamed Washington Dixie after his inauguration – because all other municipalities in South Florida had been renamed after Ulysses S Grant or some other notable American leader at that time! During World War II (1941-1945), much activity took place within the boundaries of Miami Gardens due to its close proximity to Fort Jackson military base on Kendall Drive where so many Americans volunteered their services during that war! Afterward came an era of stability with only modest changes taking place until 1993 when Hurricane Andrew destroyed part of downtownMiami Garden leaving behind an area now known as “DowntownMiami Garden Phase III” which included much more commercial development than existed beforeAndrew struck and damaged this section of town! The late 1990s also brought about major changes when then Mayor Joe Carollo announced plans for a mixed-use redevelopment project called “Central ParkWest” adjacent to I-95 southbound near Southeastern Boulevard; this project later became known as “Central Park East” following completion in 2000! In recent years progress has been made towards reviving downtownMiami Garden through various revitalization efforts including: -the installation over 5 years ago (2009)of two large LED LCD screen billboards designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava -the activation last year (2014)of three small interactive murals created by Cuban artist Adriana Varela inside historical old building at 602 NE 26th Street known formerly as Ponce de Leon House -and finally last fall (2015)the installation of new light fixtures inside historic old building at 602 NE 26th Street known formerly as Ponce deLeon House which marked a return to proactive restoration work begun prior to Andrew damage

Miami Gardens is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 26,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Miami Area. The first known inhabitants of Miami Gardens were the Toa Batoras tribe who lived there before European contact in the 15th century. In 1835, a group of Englishmen led by James Ketchum discovered and explored this area. The land that would become Miami Gardens was purchased from Ketchum in 1839 by General Washingtons forces during the Mexican–American War for $10,000 cash. The area now called Miami Gardens was tilled and built up as a small community by white men during Reconstruction. The first school in Miami Gardens opened on January 6, 1870, operated by Methodists named Harmony Bible School & Nursery School #1 with five students and one teacher. Classes were held at home until May 3 when they moved to two buildings on Northwest First Street which became American Baptist Church #1 (now White Stone Baptist Church) and Methodist Episcopal Zion Missionary Society’s Motherhouse (now Islamorada Community church). On December 5, 1875, Captain John Suggs founded Fort Suggs near what is now Flagler Street and Northwest Second Avenue to serve as a military post for Spanish settlers living along US 1 south of today’s Miracle Mile shopping district. After serving as an outpost for several months Ulysses S Grant ordered his commander Major General William Halsey to take command of all US troops guarding South Florida because he felt that Grant had no choice but to end Reconstruction after witnessing such flagrant human rights abuses committed by Confederate forces against Union troops nearby at Pensacola Beach south of hereabouts General Halsey reported back that he could not find any Spaniards or Americans living in our vicinity so I must Orders Commander Grant accordingly… On December 10th Commodore Shriver also established himself ashore at Key West Bayou with his flagship USS Constitution under Commandant Jaffrey commanding my Naval Forces southern squadron consisting ofUSS Constitution( Flagship),USS Ponce(Flagship), USS Quincy(Flagship),USS Tomahawk(Flagship)… Commodore Shriver reported that he found only 11 whites living on this Island so it appears we are still under martial law! In 1898 citizens began petitioning Congress for independence from Spain which led to the creation of George Washington Boulevard which runs through downtownMiami Garden today while Broadway continues eastward through Kendall Park into Downtown Miami proper where it turns north onto NW First Street where it becomes UM Hospital Drive heading northeast towards Broward County Line just past Homestead Airport Road McCloskey Boulevard leads out westbound into North Dade County
