The first people who lived in what are now Miami Gardens may have been brought over onboats during Spanish colonization of America. In 1847 a group of Englishmen founded a settlement in what is now downtown Miami Gardens called "Eagle's Nest". They built an 1853 log cabin known as "The Rancho", which still stands today. In 1893 two brothers named Augustus Ivey bought land in present-day North High Street and Northwest First Avenue NW for $5 per acre (2 km²). On November 26, 1893 they donated this land to Miami Park Commissioners under the name "Eagle's Nest Park". The brothers had originally intended it as a public park that would include horseback rides and other recreational activities for workers living near Fort Lauderdale. However, due to lack of funding from commissioners or private donations, Eagle's Nest never received any significant development until after World War II when developers began purchasing tracts of undeveloped property around it for housing and commercial use. Development took off following Hurricane Wilma in 1966 when many businesses moved into newly constructed buildings along Northwest Second Avenue NE and Northwest Third Avenue NE which were rebuilt after Hurricane Andrew destroyed most of downtown Old South Side capping off years of Urban renewal that transformed much of northern southern Downtown into high-rise apartment buildings In recent years Eagle's Nest has seen some redevelopment with new restaurants opened up near its original location including Gaudreaux’ Steak House & Wine Bar inside McNair Square mall; additional retail storefronts being developed on Northeast Fourth Street NE just north of I-75 exit 8B/Stuart Road exit; as well as new annexation claims by neighboring cities such as Coral Gables and Jupiter which could eventually result in more construction activity within its boundaries given how much land remains unbuilt adjacent to both parks

The first settlement in what would become Miami Gardens was made by Fenton and his brothers on December 8, 1892 as a result of their land purchase from the Cutchogue family. In 1915, it became an incorporated municipality under the name "Miami" after Mayor Ignacio López de la Fuente proposed naming it that to honor then Vice President James K. Polk who had come to town during a visit to southern Florida in February of that year. The original city hall building was destroyed by fire in 1949 but replaced with one that still stands today. It served as both the Fire Department's station and municipal library until 1975 when it became the Police Department's station again and remains so today. In 1953, Cuba Gooding Jr.'s father bought 2,500 acres (1 km2) of land east of Miami Gardens for $10 per acre ($240 per hectare). This property would eventually be known as "Gooding Ranch". Gooding used this land for horse racing, aviation testing and other purposes before returning it to its natural state in 1990 which has includedDemocrat National Committee headquarters since 1924 and now hosts an exhibit about Cuban American history called "A Time To Remember: The Gooding Ranch Collection", open every day except Mondays from 9am-5pm Admission is free
