On 8 October 1836 British Captain James Cook landed at anchor off present day Vedado Beach on Padre Island in search of new lands to explore during his Second Voyage Round the World Expedition. By this time English navigator John Loughborough had discovered an entry on Cook's charts under the name "Vedado" (now part of downtown Miami) which he assumed to be land east of Cape Coral; however upon further exploration it was determined that this entry was not related to any land then claimed by either Spain or England but rather Fort Lauderdale Bay where Loughborough had anchored weeks earlier while exploring southbound lanes between Cuba and Haiti - thus founding what would become known as "Lauderdale County". In 1841 Jacksonville builder Jethro Gibbs built a wharf on Captiva Sound near what is now Downtown Jacksonville for shipping Sitka spruce logs imported downriver from Alaska via Panama City bound for Tampa, Florida where they were used as kindling in local fireplaces before being exported back upriver to Russia via St Petersburg before reaching New York City via Albany, New York before arriving in Tampa Bay late summer 1849. A year later saw another early American settler arrive when Tugboat captain Hugh Thomas landed at modern day Miami Beach with his shipwrecked vessel Alabama about 25 miles north east of Flagler Beach on 12 November 1850; Thomas had been following stranded Seminole Chief Manuel Fontaine who’d been captured by Creek Indians several weeks earlier along with 400 followers including women and children fleeing twin wars fought by Ulysses S Grant against Creek Nation led by White Clay Middleton over control over Indian Territory northwest of Dallas/Fort Worth which had recently been acquired from Mexico when Texas seceded from Mexico;; Thomas decided to establish a base camp providing food storage and water sources for his men during their attempt(s) to return home; today’s Tangerine Avenue runs pastThomas Point just south Of Ponce de Leonighthouse.. When news arrived through runner George Wingate aboard USS Constitution that General Andrew Jackson was invading Louisiana 7 October 1861 President James Buchanan ordered Commodore Matthew Perry (US Navy) to sail forthwith find refuge at Key West if necessary until Jackson's army could be destroyed or evacuated across Lake Pontchartrain – Perry sailed into Everglades National Park without orders only warningJackson ashore about his intentions; less than 24 hours later Jackson’s Army reached Mobile en route towards Baton Rouge where they rendezvoused with Perry offshore 10November 1861 after successfully besieging Spanish Fort San Felipe de Guadalupe – Pensacola became Federal Capital Territory effective 1 January 1862 The Battle Of Gainesville took place 3 December 1861 near modern day Doral beach involving Confederate forces commanded by General Robert E Lee under General Johnston eventual surrendering unconditionally having requested no quarter after outnumbered Confederate troops suffered significant losses including 6 officers killed, 19 wounded & 372 men taken prisoner). This battle also resulted in one US soldier dead & three missing–one unaccounted for since Union forces never regained control over Gainesville although some believe he may have deserted posteriorly Aftermath: 5 December 1861 Confederate forces burned all bridges within range including Gainesville River

With population declines across most major U.S metropolitan areas, it has been proposed that Melbourne be moved to another city within Florida or within Latin America; however, no decision has been made yet regarding whether or not Melbourne will remain an incorporated municipality within Miami-Dade County.
