One of the earliest shooting targets in Margate were two small posts set up on a dyke at the edge of town. From these, local farmers and shooters would shoot at rats and other game during fairs and festivals. The posts eventually became too heavy to be moved, so they were abandoned. However, one local man decided to take advantage of their location by erecting a large target stand next to his farmhouse in 1892. This stand quickly became an important part of the community's shooting history as it was used for both recreational and competitive purposes. Over time, other businesses also came into existence around this target stand, such as a post office, grocery store, book store, barbershop and more. In 1957, the original target stand collapsed due to age and weather conditions. It was replaced by a new structure that still remains today - Margate Shooting Target Stand (MSTS). Today MSTS is one of Florida's most popular tourist attractions for shooting enthusiasts of all ages thanks to its unique layout and history. The ground-level visitors center offers exhibits about Margate's past with information about how the stands have been used over the years; while upper levels features an observation deck with views of both Strait Of Gibraltar and Daytona Beach yachtyards. Visitors can purchase tickets online or in person from various retailers throughout town before taking their turn at firing some rounds from one of MSTS' five replicate cannons!

Margate, Florida is a small town located in the Miami-Dade County, Florida region. The population was 5,817 at the 2010 census. Margate is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach metropolitan area and is considered a bedroom community by residents. The first settlement in Margate was made on December 12, 1892 when J.W. Slocum and his brother founded a seaside resort on Jupiter Inlet called "Slocum's Isles". The name was changed to "Margate" in 1907 when millionaire Edward Hutton bought the land from Slocum's heirs. Drifting sand kept most of the buildings from standing for many years but they were finally replaced with new structures in 1967-1968 which include Margate High School, Harbourfront Centre (now Regency Mall), and City Hall. In 1941, during World War II, Margate was chosen as site for one of three airfields used by U.S Air Force Command Headquarters during Operation Neptune's Spear; it would serve as home to Combat Crews training pilots for flying missions over Japan during that time period In 1951, control of Fort Lauderdale airport passed to Broward County after vowing not to give up its right to host major events such as the Summer Olympics or Super Bowl held there each year until annexation into Broward County became an official policy of county government. In 1957 Fort Lauderdale Airport became Margates primary airport with all other airports serving mostly local traffic through their respective terminals until 2011 when both airports were merged into Margates single terminal building known today as 'Harbourfront Centre'. In 1970 developer Harry Weisman opened what would eventually become Regency mall which included anchor stores Sears and JCPenney alongside several smaller retailers including Ruby Tuesday’s seafood restaurant and numerous restaurants including Key West Grill & Bistro across two levels below Harborfront Centre’s theme park level – this also marked what would be later called Phase One development of what would become known today as 'Margate'. Phase Two began in 1978 with construction of Regency Grand Ballroom which includes a large dance floor/entertainment hall measuring 70 feet wide x 45 feet deep along one side while another large wingsadditional room measures 50 feet wide x 25 feet deep along another side forming an open sided balcony overlooking HarbourFront Centre’s main show stage/entertainment hall on one side while an indoor pool/spa measuring 40 feet long x 20 feet wide lies adjacent on the other side forming an enclosed courtyard edged by tall palm trees complete with fountain providing elegant waterfront views from virtually every room inside or outside HarbourFront Centre . This phase also saw demolition of some older buildings within Phase One such as City Hall and Harbour Front Centre's original water tower now used as parking lot surrounding Phase One containing about 100 carsLot #2 features two towers rising above ground level reaching peaks topping out at 350 ft tall each housing several condominium units topped off with cupolas or skylights providing spectacular cityscape views from nearly every window . Phase Three began officially in 1984 when construction commenced atop former Wrigley Field Parking garage beneath harbourfront centre becoming known commonly as 'the Tower' followed by openings of several new retail spaces - these included Target Center located just southwest corner directly east facing HarbourFront Centre then future anchor store formats Macy's Department Stores having their wings extending northeastward past Main Levelwalk taking up much space between them creating an impressive walkout display window visible down Main Levelwalk towards downtownMiami Herald Building completed Shortly thereafter giving Harbor Front Center its current look & feel surpassing anything ever seen before or since within any major American city center . margates skyline
