Margate, Florida is a charming town located on the St. Johns River. The population was 10,871 as of the 2010 census and it is the most populous city in Clay County. The economy of Margate is largely based on tourism and fishing, with a focus on the latter. There are also several small businesses in Margate that provide services such as plumbing, heating and air conditioning, and home repairs. The history of Margate goes back to 1837 when Captain John Haines established himself here as a whaling station. He named his town after his favorite actress from England – Mrs. John Haines (1789-1849). After years of economic recession in Florida during the early 1800s, Captain Haines invested heavily in new whaling stations around Cape Canaveral and Jupiter Inlet due to their strategic location on major waterwayside resources. These new whaling stations enabled him to maintain high profits even during difficult times for coastal merchants throughout Florida Bayou communities such as Fort Myers and Jacksonville. Captain John Haines’ daughter married local landowner James Longstreet in 1843, which led to an important cultural connection between Margate and Jacksonville through business transactions and social events held at Longstreet’s plantation home called “The Grove” near present-day Jacksonville Landing on Biscayne Bayou. Over time this relationship evolved into one of mutual respectability for both families due to their close ties with prominent citizens within Jacksonville society who were influential enough to receive invitations to attend masked balls given by Mrs. Longstreet at her plantation home (later known as “The Grove Park”). At these balls partygoers would dance attendance free under heavy patronage from Ladies Longstreet herself until late into the evening pursuant to rules set by her father requiring all unmarried women attending these events not only behaved impeccably but also contributed handsome sums of money towards charity selected by LadyLongStreet herself! In 1856 Mr & Mrs Wm Jethro Cook took up residence at 515 East Federal Road (now called Main Street), only 2 blocks south of where they had been living prior at 327 Dealey Avenue since 1840 when they moved from Baltimore MD after William Cooke became proprietor/manager/director of steamboat docks along Mobile Bayou opposite Naval Air Station Pensacola - now Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Marine Corps Reserve Camp LeJeune AFB - serving area fishermen starting out with dynamite lures! They opened their doors receiving guests daily until December 1895 when hostilities ended WWII; then continued Saturdays 9am thru 4pm! In 1924 they sold house #4&5 across street from current building facing US 1st Ave & Gulfport Rd; property next door still used today for storage @ 209 E Federal Rd which fronts US 1st Ave just north side Government House Park Preserve

Margate, Florida is a small town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. It is the primary commercial and residential center of the village of Margate which lies within the boundaries of Margate Municipal Airport. The population was 5,491 at the 2010 census. As of 2016, the count includes 3,513 people who identify as being " Hispanic or Latino". The first Europeans to visit what is now Margate were Spanish conquistadors on their way to Mexico City in 1565. A post office called "Margate" was established in 1892. In 1915, a railroad line was built through rural Hillsborough County and part of it ran through Margate; this led to the development of what are now downtown and several other areas around town. In 1941, during World War II, residents of nearby Mayport began construction on an airfield adjacent to present-day Margate Municipal Airport as part of Project Lend-Lease. The airfield was used by both American and British forces during World War II and became known as RAF Station Mayport after its completion in 1945. The property surrounding RAF Station Mayport became developed into today's downtown area with many homes being built on land that had been donated by local businesses including woodcarvers Owen & Sons Packing Company (now KeyCorp) and Beechcraft Corporation (now Delta Airlines). After World War II ended, RAF Station Mayport reverted back to American control until it ceded ownership to Britain in 1947 following their victory over Japan in World War II. At that time much of what is now downtown Margate had not yet been constructed but some elements like Fountain Square were soon completed including a shopping arcade called The Gables which served as a center for socializing for locals and visitors alike before slowly fading away over time from economic reasons. During the early 21st century there has been renewed development happening around town with new bars/restaurants opening up along with more housing developments being announced or starting up such as Park Place Apartments which will have 2 levels plus decks overlooking Park Lake while also serving as an event space for weddings/meetings etc.. While things are still developing there are already plans underway for another large complex known as "The Crossing" located just off US 1 near where Hwy 61 intersects I-95 which will include multiple buildings totaling 350 units each with access to Both sides Of Interstate 95!
