Margate is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. It is known for its ammunition stores and manufacturing facilities that produce both arms and ammunition throughout the years. Ammunition has been an important part of Margate's community since at least the 1850s. The first ammunition store in Margate was opened by Abram Bogue in 1853. The town's first armory was built in 1865 by John Crouch and began operations that year. In 1876, J.B. Stevens opened a munitions plant within the town limits that produced artillery shells, bullets, rockets and other munitions until it closed in 1966. In 1930, Armour Manufacturing Company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form America's First Rifle Factory (AFRF). The company manufactured firearms including rifles, shotguns and pistols under several different names until it ceased operations in 1984. Today there are three active ammo manufacturers within Margate: American Eagle Ammunition Corporation (AEAC), Federal Armory Ammunition Corporation (FAAC) and Midway Ammo Co., Inc.(MCOI). AEAC is headquartered inside of the old Armour factory which has been preserved as a museum dedicated to ammo history since its closure in 1984. The museum offers a variety of exhibits on ammo production from early cannons all the way up to modern firearms systems utilizing today's propellants and components

The history of ammunition in Margate, Florida can be traced back to the early 1800s. Before that, there were no guns or ammo in this area, and people relied on hunting and fishing to provide their own defense. Ammunition was necessary for these activities, as well as for militia training and other purposes. In 1851, the first shot was fired in what is now Margate when Confederate soldiers attempted to storm Fort Brooke. The fort was built on a peninsula adjacent to the harbor and had been used by both English and Spanish troops before becoming American territory in 1813. It wasn’t until after the Civil War that ammunition became a problem for residents of Margate because Union forces didn’t allow them to use cannons against Confederate targets. A store opened up on Atlantic Avenue near present-day West Harbor Boulevard in 1861 and began selling rifles, shotguns, pistols, bullets, powder horns and other firearms products. This business soon became known as the “gunsmith shop” because it serviced all sorts of pistols from revolvers to carbines. In 1865, another store opened up at Ninth Street opposite the Post Office where handguns continued to be sold alongside rifles and shotguns. This business eventually became known as Cash & Carry Ammo which still operates today. More than 20 years passed before Margate started having any major firefights thanks to efforts by volunteer firefighters stationed throughout the town. These courageous men would respond to calls for help from civilians living within range of gunfire or during events such as accidents or demonstrations outside of town center where fighting could take place easily nearby buildings like factories or warehouses used for storage by local businessesowners with their hands full preventing fires from spreading into their propertiesangering innocent bystanders inside!

The name "Margate" comes from the English word "margin." By 1905, Margate had become a thriving commercial center with stores and businesses such as a millinery and grocery store. In 1916, Margate became a city when it incorporated under the name of Port Orange. To celebrate its centennial year in 2002, Margate erected a commemorative plaque to recognize its history and achievements. Today, Margate remains an important community within DeSoto County with strong ties to education and commerce. In 1853, Nicholas-Jacques Conte developed percussion cap cartridges which were significantly more common than muzzle loading weapons at this point. These cartridges allowed for much higher rates of fire due to their ability to delay reloading times by up to twenty minutes compared to traditional muzzleloading munitions designs. The use of percussion caps allowed soldiers tofire multiple rounds per minute instead of only one round per minute used with traditional munitions
