The Aitchison Rifle was designed as a self-loading shotgun that could be fired from any position within easy range. In 1903, Mr Samuel Colt developed the first truly automatic handgun, the Colt Model 1895A1. This weapon featured an electric trigger that operated like a human hand gun and became one of the most famous handguns of its time. By 1920, automatic pistols had become standard issue throughout the US military and law enforcement forces, while airguns were relegated mainly to recreational shooters. However, interest in airguns remained high until World War II when they again became widely available due to increasing demands for artillery ammunition in World War II. In 1945, Automatic Pistol Association (APA) was founded to promote automatic pistols as hunting weapons rather than general purpose firearms. Margate, Florida is located on the eastern shore of Jacksonville, Florida. It was founded by English settlers in 1837 as a small community known as New Harbor. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the mouth of the St. Johns River, which made it an ideal spot for shipbuilding and fishing. In 1907, Margate became part of Jacksonville and was renamed to honor Major General James K. Polk, who had served as President of the United States in that year. The city experienced another boom during World War II because of its status as a major shipping and naval base. The war contributed to Margate's population growth by providing jobs for local residents and businesses. After the war ended, Margate began to decline until it disappeared from census rolls in 1970. However, recent excavations have revealed that much of what once stood here remains: a series of elegant brick buildings dating back to the 1880s now serve as offices and shops downtown; aShipyard District comprising several contributing warehouses still stands today; and large areas along both banks of the river still contain significant amounts of historical remains including houses, churches, factories, docks and ships
Margate, Florida was founded in 1847 by Captain John A. Stroud and his family. The town became a major center for cotton farming and shipping in the early 1800s. In 1870, Margate became a seaside resort with beachfront property and hotels. The popularity of the resort led to the construction of nearby Overseas Highway which made it easy to reach Margate from all corners of the United States. In 1962, Margate was purchased by Gulf coast developer Raymond Latham who renamed it Gulf Breeze Beach Resort & Marina. He built an amusement park and casino on land adjacent to the beachfront hotel. The resort continued to be popular until 1997 when it was sold to Spanish-owned development company Constancia Grandes SA for $225 million. As of 2018, Grandes is still operating the facility as a luxury oceanfront vacation home option with casinos, restaurants, shops and services located on two acres inside its theme park complex along 5th Street SW in Margate
