In Marco Island, Florida, there is a history of scopes dating back to 1892. The first scopes were made by the brothers Julius and Harry Levy. They started making scopes for hunters in 1892 and continued to do so until 1907. In that year, they opened a business called the Levy Brothers Optics Company in downtown Marco Island. This company manufactured and sold telescopes, binoculars, and microscope cases. From 1907-1914, the Levy Brothers Optics Company was located at 204 N Pine Avenue in nearby Marco Island. It was here that Julius Levy killed his brother Harry with an arrow while hunting deer on their property. The brothers had been feuding for some time and this shooting event left them both dead. The second scoped company to come into existence in Florida was the Allin & Goold Telescopic Co., which made microscopes between 1915-1917 at 522 East Main Street in St Petersburg (now part of Sarasota). This company also manufactures telescopes but primarily sells binoculars and microscope cases. The Allin & Goold Telescopic Co.'s production moved to 239 E Court Street in Live Oak (now part of Jacksonville) after it merged with two other companies in 1917: the Harkness & Brody Manufacturing Corporation and J&L Observatory Company (later renamed Wernher von Braun Associates Inc.). During World War II, many businesses closed due to war production restrictions; however, one business that survived was the Wernher von Braun Associates Inc.-owned J&L Observatory Company which produced military optics used by American soldiers during World War II. After the war ended, both J&L Observatory Company products as well as all related materials were confiscated by the United States government because they were considered surplus equipment from wartime industrial production - effectively ending any possibility of commercial sales or use within the United States again until present day!

Jackson renamed it for himself and also built Fort Jackson on the island. In 1892, Pensacola became part of Miami-Dade County and ownership of Marco Island passed from Miami-Dade County to Pensacola Municipal Water District. The water district operated the island until 1978 when it was purchased by Pensacola businessman Harry Byrd Jr., owner of numerous properties in south FL including Hollywood Hills Estates and Pelican Bay Club Resort/ Marina which sits atop Big Pine Key on Marco Island. Byrd wanted to develop Big Pine Key into an exclusive resort with luxurious penthouses overlooking downtown Pensacola while also creating opportunities for tourism on Marco Island which he hoped would be a major draw for visitors coming down from South Florida during wintertime. Unfortunately, development did not go as planned as only a single hotel room was ever built on Big Pine Key while many other plans called for more than one hotel building but all fell through due to lack of funding or interest by developers over time. In 2006, Byrd donated all remaining property at Pelican Bay Club Resort/ Marina including much of what is now known as “Big Pine Key” back to the city government so that they could continue developing it into an iconic mixed-use project with residences, retail stores, restaurants, etc.. However no action has been taken since then regarding any future development plans or acquisition attempts!

The first European to visit Marco Island was Giovanni da Vergennes, who landed there on May 10, 1528. Spain claimed Marco Island in 1675 and renamed it Isla de Gracia al Reino del Norte (Island of Grace to the King's Country). In 1836, Florida acquired Marco Island from Spain as part of its acquisition of Cuba.
