Marco Island, Florida is home to a number of optical businesses and retailers. Optical products have been a part of the community since at least 1892 when A.W. Shadbolt established his business selling glass ware and lenses from his shop on US-1 in town. In 1934, Mr. Shadbolt's son, Arthur W., opened the first optical store in Marco Island proper - The Shadbolt Optics Store. Over time, other stores were opened by various owners until it was sold to David Kizer in 1984 and then to the current owners, Jody and Kathy Weinstock, in 2000.Today, The Weinstocks are one of the largest optical businesses in Southwest Florida with over 100 employees and operations encompassing more than 20 retail locations across Sarasota County including eight stores withinMarco Island itself as well as two warehouse locations plus an online presence. The history of Marco Island's optic industry goes back many years before evenMarco Island had significance as a portage point for goods travelling between Sarasota County downriver and Key West. On December 8th 1892 entrepreneur A.W Shadbolt established his business selling glass ware and lenses from his shop on US-1 in town - about three miles inland from today's Marine Terminal Complex on Sarasota Bayou (today's Boca Raton Boulevard). At that time there were no roads or highways connecting these parts of Sarasota County so shipping goods by boat was the only way to get your product to market! Shadbolt's shop was soon joined by other local merchants who would sell their products through Mr. Shadbolt directly or through local distributors such as Ewing & Co., WH Smith & Bros., Jardine & Mathews etc.. All of this activity took place during what is now known as 'theBusiness Years' which spanned 1892-1934! This period saw significant growth for Marco Island thanks to its location at the mouth of Sarasota Bayou - an ideal spot for maritime commerce due to its deep water channels and easy access to shipping resources! Additionally, being located close together gave each participating business plenty of opportunity to learn new techniques and share ideas with their customers! It was during these Business Years that some truly innovative products were developed such as Mr.'s First Contact Lens Glasses which became popular among boaters! natty sunglasses also emerged during this time period Thanks largely to William Fenton who started making them at his father's store just east of town on US-1 ! In 1984 David Kizer purchased The Shadbolt Optics Store from Mr Arthur W Shadbolt Jr which left behind a legacy both inside and outside OfMarcoIsland . Over time David has continued To build upon this foundation by developing new product lines such as Artec optics (now part of Alcon), precision optics (now owned by LASIK Innovations), astigmatism correction products (owned by Drury Astigmatism) along with providing quality customer service ever since! In 1865, following the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln authorized Ulysses S. Grant to purchase land at present-day Marco Island for $5 million dollars from private citizens. The grant was made possible by a law passed by Congress which exempted military use of land not used for farming or other agricultural purposes from taxation
In the early days of photography, there was no way to capture images with light other than with cameras. Cameras used glass or metal plates that photographers could use to capture images with light. The first camera lenses were made from Diffraction-limited optics and they required a specific focus point in order to take an image. By 1878, photography had progressed enough that photographic paper became available which allowed for taking pictures using light other than visible light. In 1886, a man named George Eastman created the first filmcamera and it used silver nitrate instead of black glass or metal plates to take photos and he called it the "Eastman Kodak Camera". The development of digital technology has permitted for the creation of electronic devices that can store, process and view photos on computers, phone screens and even home TVs. The island was first settled by Spanish colonists in 1565, and became a part of the United States after being acquired by Florida in 1821. Marco Island has been home to many famous people and events over the years, including presidents George Washington and James K. Polk, as well as Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. In 1933, Marco Island was designated a National Historic Landmark." Although Marco Island has been populated for centuries, it wasn’t until 1795 that the first European settlement on the island happened. At that time, Spanish colonists were looking for a place to build an oil refinery due to its rich deposits of natural gas. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t find anything valuable on Marco Island – so they abandoned their efforts and never returned. The next few decades were fairly peaceful on Marco Island – except for one period when there was some tension between Spanish settlers and Native Americans. This conflict led to several skirmishes between both groups which eventually ended with a peace agreement. In 1821, Florida acquired land from Spain near present-day Pensacola Bayou in order to create what would become known as Seminole Territory. At this time, however, there were no Hispanics living on or around Marco Island – so it remained unoccupied until 1830 when some Spaniards decided to move into what is now called Old Town on the main island (now part of downtown). The original inhabitants of Old Town were primarily Indians who had come overland from Indian Key in Tampa Bay area during the early 1800s. After about fifty years of residence onMarcoIsland (during which time most residents traded goods) most natives died out because they couldn’t compete with advancing English society or their own diseases brought over from Europe/North America via shipwrecking settlements along Tampa Bayou during this era! After about seventeen years without human contact another group of Spaniards showed up atOldTown claiming ownershipoftheisland(presumably through purchase or capture). They named their town after themselves (in honor of Don Manuel de la Vega y Escobar y Costilla who had bought much of what is now Sarasota County from Native American tribes circa 1795)! Over time this name morphed into “MarcoPolo”(meaning “the land beyond”), while other parts such as North End gradually lost all connection with either Santeria religion or culture altogether! It should be noted that although claims can be made regarding historical accuracy & corroboration thereof – all evidence pertaining thereto MUST BE CONSIDERED PERSONAL PROBABILITY & NOT ASSUMED BY FACTS PRESENTLY BEFORE ANY OTHER OPINION IS FORMULATED OR DECIDED ON! As stated afore…personality bias may very well have influenced certain portions/facts hereinbeforeONLY if those same individuals happen TO hold political power within government at THAT TIME (& don’t necessarily anymore!) Anyway…back onto our story…around 1840 more Spaniards started arriving atOldTown&renamingit “MarcoCreek”afterthemselves(&forrestgump too!). Eventuallybecomingknownasmodernmiami! continued growth ensued& shortly thereafter an Indian Fuego Fire destroyed almost everythingOnMarcoIsland saveforthespaniels!! So much for history being unbiased 😉
