The Marco Island Massacre of 1912 was an event that occurred on the island of Marco Island, Florida on November 9th, 1912. It is commonly considered to be one of the worst mass shootings in American history. The victims were nine people, including two children, who were shot and killed by a group of gunmen who stormed into their home after being served a warrant for violating firearms regulations. Five other people were injured in the attack.

In Marco Island, Florida, the gun security history goes back to at least 1923. The first gun store in Marco Island was opened by E.W. Marriott in 1923 and sold guns to local law enforcement and members of the military. In 1928, a second gun store was opened by J.C. Penney and it continued selling firearms until 1969 when it closed its doors for good. During World War II, many local businesses were forced to close their doors due to the demand for ammunition and guns by the Armed Forces of America. After the war, Gun Store Bazaaropened up in 1951 and continues selling firearms until it closed its doors in 1995 also because of a lack of customers.
Marco Island is a small town in Levy County, Florida. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. The name comes from Italian immigrants who settled there in the early 1800s. It is located on the mouth of the Sanibel River and is known for its white sand beaches and crystal clear water. Marco Island was founded by Marcello Vespucci, a Portuguese explorer who sailed along the coast of Florida in 1513-1514. He named it after his home island of Majorca, which he had seen while sailing across Iberian waters. In 1795, Spanish colonists arrived on Marco Island to build Fort Moselle on what is now Pensacola Bayou. They renamed it Isla de Luzon after the Spanish royal family's stronghold in Manila, Philippines then returned to Spain in 1803 and sold Isla de Luzon to America for $5 million dollars ($113 million today). The first American settlers arrived on Marco Island in 1836 as part of Captain John Capper's Experiment Expedition under General James K. Polk's command during United States Presidential Election Year 362 (1836). They were seven men: David Brower, Augustus Chapman, Amos Kendall, George Wirtz (of Wirtz Paper Company), Salmon Pinchot (of Pennsylvania Railroad), Hiram Sibley (of Sibley & Sons fishing company), and John Fitts (JF Fitts & Son shipyards). After landing they set up their tents and stores near present day Pensacola Beach before beginning their journey northward that winter via inland waterways including Miami River and Apalachicola River networks. In 1840 Captain Alfred Thayer led an expedition that explored much of Florida but did not visit Marco Island because it was under Mexican control at that time. A possible reason why thisdid not happen may be due to rivalry between Captain Thayer's own United States Naval forces based at Key West commanded by Commodore Matthew Cushing and Admiral José Antonio Éxito López de Santa Anna's Mexican Navy headquartered at Veracruz where Thayer was serving as commanding officer with jurisdiction over alligator hunting grounds off mainland Mexico - an activity punishable by death under Mexican law at that time! A year later another US Naval expedition consisting of three boats visited Marco Island but failed to find any evidence of human habitation or trade with Rembrandt Islands also controlled by Mexico at that time! A fourth US Naval expedition led by Commodore Silas Deane chartered two boats called Dolphin and Beagle II attempted to explore Marco Island but never reached land because they ran into strong currents trying to get near shore! These failures likely account for why no written record exists documenting either human presence or trade on this tinyIsland during these years other than oral traditions passed down through local fishermen! It wasn't until 1845 when Cuban immigrant Manuel Diaz Calderón became interested in acquiring possession of Isla de Luzon from Spain following his release from prison after being convicted for treason against Napoleon Bonaparte during the Mexican Revolution days prior! Diaz Calderón enlisted brother-in-law Mateo Gómez Couture – one half owner of same sugar plantation holdings as Manuel Diaz Calderón –to help him purchase Isla deLuzon from Spain for $10 thousand dollars cash! This event marks perhaps the first successful land acquisition attempt made by Cubans since their revolution!!! On July 2nd 1846 Josefina Margarita Zárate y Valdés Cervera purchased two adjacent islands - Grande Ancho #1 which included present day Bimini island[2]and smaller Ancho #2 which included present day Sarasota[3] –worth an additional $30 thousand dollars ($377 million)!! These acquisitions placedMarcoIsland firmly within Ustica Punta Cana Zone administered by Cuba since Spain still retained ownership over these islands despite becoming a free republic!! With this increase in wealth came increased development pressure from bothorgeous White Sands National Park located just easton mainland Cuba[4] as well as complaints about cultural differences between Cubans living here vs those living back home back inside Havana where most people spoke fluent English?! Some historians believethatPonce De Leon may have been partially responsiblefor creatingtheWhite Sand National Monument(WSNM)[5], createdto preservethis valuableseascapeduringhis lifetimebecausehe believedit could serveasa modelforfuturecolonization projectsoffFlorida!!! Today nearly eighty percentoftheislandiscoveredbytheNationalPark Service,[6] makingitperhapsoneofthestatepatrollingnationalparksalongwithHawaiiAndAlaska!!!!

Roosevelt signed into law the Gun Control Act which regulated firearm ownership and possession by citizens. 4) The Gun Control Act also established the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to help investigate background checks for potential gun purchases. 5) Between 1990 and 2000, there was a increase in homicides involving firearms in the United States due to more access to handguns from criminals or people with mental illness. 6) The Gun Owners of America (GOA) has been an advocate for stricter gun laws since its creation in 1977. GOA has slogan “The NRA doesn’t represent us” and “No other organization represents gun owners as closely as GOA does” 7) GOA has successfully lobbied for changes to federal firearms laws such as expanded background check procedures and stronger restrictions on assault rifles and high-capacity magazines

Marco Island is a small, barrier island located in the Gulf of Mexico between Pensacola, Florida and Mobile, Alabama. It was first settled in 1795 by the Choctaw people. The island was acquired by the United States in 1821 as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Civil War. It became part of Cuba after its independence from Spain. After Cuba's transfer to America, it was used as a military base for U.S. forces during World War II before becoming a postwar community known for its gulf fishing and golf courses. In 1972, Marco Island became aîche d'Or (Island of Gold) due to its deposits of gold coins dating back to ancient Spanish traders who visited the area in 1518-1519. The island has been inhabited since at least 1823 when French settlers arrived seeking land grants along with other Europeans seeking new opportunities in what would become America. In 1824, landowner James Auld sold 8 acres (3 km²) on which he had built his own home on an spit extending into the Gulf Stream where he named it Fort Auld after himself and his wife Agnes (née MacDonald). The first permanent European settler on Marco Island was John Wesley Hogg who landed there with his family on July 12th, 1795 while they were exploring Pensacola Bay looking for new land westward following their victory over Spanish forces at Mobile Bay two months earlier. On September 11th following Hogg's landing, three more families joined him including that of Daniel Boone who had set out from Kentucky about two weeks earlier looking for lands eastward beyond Pensacola Bay under similar auspices but without success until he met Hogg onMarco Island.) The first organized attempt at farming on Marco Island took place about 1830 when Drury Brothers leased 2 acres (1 km²) from Captain Jno Richardson near today's intersection of US Highway 98 and FRANKLIN STREET.. By 1840 over 20 families were living off produce grown on 3-4 acres (1-2 km²) plots irrigated using canal water brought downriver each year from springs located near present day Springdale and Doakstown just east of present day Marathon Beach.. In 1865 postmaster General Nicholas Tristam approved plans by Wm Burtel & Sons furriers to ship live stock through Mobile Strait onto Craggy Rock Creek Landing Site offering $5 per head payable upon landing.. This led to increased livestock production which allowed farmers to build homes overlooking lush green fields now enclosed within city limits today.. As early as 1870 some residents began referring to themselves as "Gulf Coasters" because they vacationed only on or nearMarcoIsland.-During World War I nearly 1/3rd million tons (210 metric tons; 100 kg)of munitions were shipped through Mobile Strait via MarcoIsland Ferry Service bringing much needed supplies directly into TampaBay.-In 1951 many jobs went away when President Dwight D Eisenhower closed all federal government offices nationwide effective May 5th citing skyrocketing deficits resultant from Korea conflict-As result most businesses closed including oil refineries operated by Gulf Coast Oil Company owner Marsh brands Incorporated name change Stating "Suddenly our town turned into an exact replica of Little Havana - except that we didn't have any sugar cane fields." Many employees lost their jobs however several successful entrepreneurs such as banker Leroy Ellerbeck kept their businesses going despite difficult times.- Today many locals still refer to themselves simply as "Gulf Coasters" although most tourists now use more specific terms like Sarasota County Resident or Gulf Coast Resident
