Their endeavor was not successful but it did lead them to start selling guns door-to-door throughout central Florida. This early success allowed them to build up a large customer base and helped them develop what would eventually become one of America's leading gun mag brands - Hargrave Firearms Corporation (HFC). In 1911, HFC made its move from Marco Island to Fort Myers Beach where it continued making quality guns until 2008 when it closed its doors forever after experiencing financial difficulties related to global economic conditions. Today, there are still many loyal customers who appreciate HFC's classic handguns and shotguns - something that can be seen evidence throughout much of central Florida including Fort Myers Beach where there are currently several dozen HFC-branded stores open.-

Grant became the first U.S. president to visit Marco Island when he came ashore for a state Visit to Tampa Bay Area In 1916, during World War I, the United States Naval base at Guantanamo Bay was established on Maria Mercedes Blanco Reef near present-day Marco Island while temporarily reassigning naval forces from Jacksonville Beach (then known as Fort Myers) due to its proximity to Cuba The United States military presence on Maria Mercedes Blanco Reef ended in 1946 with the conclusion of World War II; however, some remnants of personnel still live there today including an airfield used by Navy fighter jets during exercises off Key Largo As American Samoa became an independent country following their secession from Japan in 1959, most of what is now called Marcus Island remained under American Samoa jurisdiction until 1970 when it became part ofMarco Island Township which then included all but 2 square miles (3 km²) of present day Marco Island After years of deliberations among township officials and residents who spoke out against annexation into Indian River County – which would have had ramifications for job availability and zoning changes – the township voted not to annex into Indian River County despite being given no choice by county commissioners because they did not want any development close enoughto their existing homes or schools while also facing traffic congestion caused by neighboring counties applying for increases in speculators' densities without regards for public input or concerns about environmental impact finally after much outcry from residents who felt that they were being bulldozed without proper consideration – especially since annexed land lay just eastof those same homespun Maple Street Elementary School where many people had grown up – commissioners relented and allowed annexation instead only within boundaries that paralleled those proposed for Marcus Island Township . However since Indian River County encompasses all but 3 square miles (3 km²)of present day Marco Island Township , few if any jobs are available within easy reach either inside or outside Ofira so residents continue occupying vacant properties adjacent to schools while planners continue eyeing yet another annexation attempt although this one may be more likely since current zoning allows much larger buildings than those currently authorized Within town limits
