Florian Müller (1920-2005) – An important early tech entrepreneur who developed computer software for US military intelligence during World War II; he later founded his own company which became one of the world's largest electronic commerce conglomerates Harry Smith (1910-1985) – One half of two Ivor Novello brothers who were instrumental in developing British rock music industry during the 1940s; he co-founded Mercury Records with Ahmet Ertegun and Selwyn Lennon before founding Apple Corps., which oversaw Apple Inc.'s development into antech giant that included iTunes, iCloud, iPod touch, AirPlay 2 and more

Maitland was a small town in Duval County, Florida, until the early 21st century. It is now an unincorporated community located in Volusia County. Maitland was founded by Danish immigrants who arrived in 1851 and named it after their home country, Denmark. The first post office opened in Maitland on October 12, 1855. as did the first school. By 1870, there were only three residents living in Maitland while the population of Volusia County had grown to more than 100 people. The agricultural sector of Maitland's economy began to decline beginning in the 1920s due to changes in production patterns and technology; however, local businesses continued to do well into the 1990s. In 2009, village officials announced that they were looking for a new economic development strategy which would focus on tourism and culture instead of agriculture or manufacturing; this led to a resurgence of interest in Maitland between 2010-2015 which has seen locals hosting events such as arts festivals and summer camps within its boundaries. Today, Maitland retains its Scandinavian heritage with several grocery stores (Aurum Gourmet Market & Super 8), two restaurants (Viking dive & Jax Grill), a library (Milton Library) and an active water system run by volunteers from local churches/faith groups who recycle materials from restaurant dishes
Maitland was founded in 1836 by Captain John Maitland and his family. The town grew rapidly during the 1840s, due to its location on the Apalachicola River. In 1851, Maitland became a county seat of Leon County. In 1865, the Florida legislature changed Leon County's name to Pasco County after General George Washington Pasco. In 1872, Maitland incorporated as a city and soon developed into one of the most important commercial centers in Southwest Florida. By 1925, it had reached its peak as a major center for citrus production and commerce. However, during World War II Maitland experienced an economy-altering period when its population increased from 2,000 to 30,000 residents due to military construction projects within the city limits. Despite these challenges, Maitland has kept pace with changes over time – becoming a leading edge community in SouthwestFlorida for technology and entrepreneurialism; hosting several high-ranking government officials including Mayor Rick Scott; and becoming home to numerous cultural attractions such as The Tampa Bay Times Forum (now Amalie Arena) and Ybor City Arts District.
