The rifle stocks history in Maitland, Florida began with the establishment of the Maitland Rifle and Pistol Company on October 3, 1892. The company was chartered to produce rifle and pistol ammunition. The first rifles were produced by hand and the company operated out of a small building at 707 W Seminole Boulevard. In 1912, the company moved to its present location at 6807 S Orange Blossom Trail. In 1916, the company became part of Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation and remained with that organization until 1993 when it was sold to Browning Firearms Corporation.
When Florida statehood was granted in 1959, Maitland was one of the towns chosen to become a city. The town had been a farming community since at least the 1800s, and its residents were known for their agricultural production. Maitland experienced some growth during the 1930s and 1940s when it became an important stop on Route 66. In 1951, the Maitland Chamber of Commerce organized what would become the first municipal election in Maitland. That year, James H. Fenton became mayor and Hiram A. Dickey served as vice mayor. The economy of Maitland changed after World War II when military service brought new people to the area and created many jobs in manufacturing and agriculture. However, these advances also led to other problems such as racial tension which continued until well into the 1960s. In 1964, Mayor Fenton appointed Arthur Jaffe as City Manager to help with resident complaints about government services being slow or not meeting expectations. This move marked an important change for Maitland because prior to that time City Manager positions had been filled by individuals who were not necessarily interested in running for office (i.e., people who did not have any experience with city administration). In 1965, voters passed a referendum asking if they wanted to annex adjacent unincorporated areas of Volusia County so that Maitland would have more power over its own affairs within the municipality limits alone instead of having to negotiate with Volusia County officials about issues like zoning changes and development projects alike. This annexation proposal was successful and allowed Maitland greater independence from Volusia County while still maintaining close ties with it through our Municipal Council meetings and other community events

Maitland, Florida is a small town in Duval County, Florida. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Maitland was founded in 1892 by Captain John A. Maitland and his wife Catherine Fenton. The first post office in Maitland was established in 1893. The community began as a seasonal farming village known for its citrus crops and hunting opportunities on nearby Clearwater Key. By the early 1920s, however, the industry had died out and most of the settlers were from other parts of Duval County looking for new land to settle. That changed when two brothers named Edwin Hargrave opened a hardware store in 1926 and started selling items such as farm implements and gasoline pumps to farmers along US-1A north of town. In 1940, Colonel Harry Easley purchased 272 acres (113 hectares) northwest of town from Edwin Hargrave's heirs for $5,000 cash plus 30% interest in an agricultural cooperative he had organized called "Cotton acreage". At that time it was one of only a few tracts of land still remaining withinDuval County unceded since 1821 when Spain ceded it to America following their victory over Mexico at Monterrey Bayou while combatting French forces during the Mexican-American War. With just over 100 residents living there before World War II, Cactus Acres quickly became one of Duval's largest cotton plantations with more than 10 million pounds (4 million kg) grown between 1915 and 1941 alone! After being bombed campaigns by both Germany and Japan throughout World War II destroyed many homes, churches and other infrastructure including much farmland; after V-E Day 1945 all but 4 houses remained standing on Cotton Acres Plantation which reverted back to agriculture until it sold to Cuban refugees who renamed it after Fidel Castro near Miami Beach in 1962; today you will find several Havana styleCastro homes scattered around rural areas across Central Florida! In 1961/62 Fidel Castro acquired additional property northeast of town which included about 300 acres (121 hectares) undeveloped now known as Maitland Air Force Base . This property became known as Chavez Ravine Park . Today this park features miles long paved walks Shoreline Drive running through beautiful virgin pine trees & hammocks & lovely ponds perfect for swimming or fishing… what more could you ask for?
