Maitland, Florida is a small town located in the state of Florida. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most heavily populated areas in Duval County. The original town plat was filed on December 16, 1869 and named for John A. Maitland's father, Drury Maitland. The first post office was established in 1870 and was called Miamiville after Miami, Alabama which had been acquired from Seminole Indians by General Andrew Jackson during his campaign against them in 1818-19. In 1886, the name of the town changed to Maitland after Major General James Hiscock who served with distinction during the American Civil War and also became a landowner hereabouts through his endeavors in cattle raising and citrus growing. The community experienced significant growth during World War II when it became an important supply point for munitions production by Duval County’s many aviation plants including Pensacola Naval Air Station (now Naval Air Station Jacksonville). Afterward, Maitlands declined somewhat until more recent decades when new development has resumed around its major shopping malls including JCPenney/ Sears & Roebuck/ Macy’s multiplexes as well as numerous other businesses such as banks, law firms etc., making it one ofDuval County’s most active economic areas today despite rapid population growth over the past few decades In 1912 residents petitioned for incorporation into what would become Duval County but this request was denied because there were not enough votes cast to make it an official county subdivision In 1926 voters again petitioned for incorporation but this time were successful enough to create what would become Maitland Township with a population of about 240 people However because this township embraced alluvial soil rather than pure sandstone or limestone like that found elsewhere within Duval County, some attempts have been made to rename or change its name variously over time – usually ending up with something close to its original moniker such as “Milton Township” or “Cristobal Township” only to be abandoned again shortly thereafter due largely to lack of support from local residents In spite of these attempts at renaming however, locals generally prefer their current appellation given its historical significance plus its easy access both by car and bus making it convenient for everyone living within miles . After being annexed into Broward County following county formation on March 29th 1961 officials decided that due to mixed racial voting patterns withinDuval County – particularly among African Americans – a separate black municipality should be formed instead dubbed All Hallows Park which took effect on April 14th 1962 with a population size of just under 2200 people . With increasing Hispanic immigration starting in late 1970s & continuing through 2000s along with increased industrial activity from nearby counties such as Palm Beach & Hillsborough Counties; townships like Milton began seeing increased populations even before annexation while cities like Coral Gables saw their percentages dwindle shrieking “ annexation? No way! We are staying put ! ? annexion? Yes we can definitely handle ourselves ! ?” although ultimately they too eventually lost much if not all their resident diversity ; nevertheless becoming increasingly majority white throughout much of their history culminating in 2007 when they finally achieved minority status according to UF Population Estimates

Maitland, Florida was founded by the father of the modern day town in 1835. The area that is now Maitland was part of what is now St. Lucie County. It was first settled by phosphate farmers and hunters who were displaced by more recent settlers from South Florida. By 1868, it had become a small agricultural community with several stores and a post office. In 1902, Maitland became part of Fort Pierce Municipal Borough which then became Fort Pierce County in 1912. In 1932, Maitland annexed the neighboring unincorporated community of Cutler to its boundaries. This annexation resulted in an increase in population as Cutler’s residents decided they wanted to be part of their larger neighbor but still remain independent. In 1949, after years of debate between the two communities over annexation applications and land use changes, Maitland voted to annex Cutler as well. The annexation created a new neighborhood on the east side of town that continues to serve as an important cultural center for both towns today. The history of Maitland can be traced back to 1835 when John Fitzpatrick set out from Miami with his family for what would become Maitland Township (now St Lucie County). He arrived at what is now known as Fitzpatrick Landing on October 15th and began exploring potential locations for his new township while hunting down phosphate deposits outside the county line. Fitzpatrick’s successors named their initial settlements after friends or family members: Liverpool (1836), Clearwater (1838), Belleair (1839), Dunedin (1840), Pompano Beach (1841), Hollywood Heights (1842) and Plantation Key Point near present-day West Palm Beach/Boca Raton Airport (1912). The name “Maitland” was chosen due to its similarity to “maitLANDtory key faro [a type of gambling] played at high stakes on Reedy Creek within walking distance from where we landed” according to one source cited in Schulz v Hixon 548 So 3d 602(Fla.[1]). Grants were issued in 1845 naming each township after notable citizens or families associated with that location: Liverpool – James Fenton; Clearwater – Augustus Kelley; Belleair –William Bliss; Dunedin –John Aiken; Pompano Beach – Isaac Watts; Hollywood Heights –John Thornton; Plantation Key Point -George Washington Parke
Maitland is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Maitland was founded in 1892 by J.D. Maitland and his wife Lucille Hunt as a small community on a bend in the St John's River near what is now Jacksonville. In 1924, Maitland became an incorporated city with its own government and police force. In 1990, Maitland annexed part of Fort Walton Beach to make it its new city limits; this annexation created a second municipality within Maitland's boundaries which has since had its own government and police force separate from that of Maitland proper. In 2002, Maitland successfully lobbied for statehood as a municipal entity within Florida due to its unique history and demographics; this campaign resulted in the passage of Amendment 1 to the Florida Constitution which granted municipals statewide power to governing bodies with no county-level representation (the first such amendment ever passed in Florida).
