Maitland is located in Polk County, Florida and has been a part of the United States since 1821. The first European to visit Maitland was Jean Baptiste Rousseau in 1794. In 1821, the US acquired Maitland from Spain as part of the Treaty of Paris following the Mexican-American War. The city was named after General James Wilkinson who died at the Battle of Palo Alto on October 9th, 1800.
Maitland, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population of Maitland was 2,521 at the 2010 census. The airport serving Maitland is I-4 south of town. The area that now makes up Maitland was first settled by pioneers in 1853. A post office called Maitland was established in 1865, and remained in operation until 1958. In 1902, a citrus orchard and market were built near the intersection of US 1 and SR 7. The Orchard closed in the early 2000s but some evidence indicates that it may have been used as an accessory storage building for a truck stop running along US 1 between Live Oak Road (now US 19) andSR 116 until around 2006 when it caught fire. In 1906, Blanche Brown purchased land east of present day downtown Maitland from John Ladd for $1,000. Over time she developed a small community with homes, churches, schools and businesses on her land which became known as "Brown's Grove". At one point there were over 50 homes in this small community alone! Brown died in 1925 before she could see her dream come true - her community would grow to include more than 100 homes by 1960! Maitland was originally named "Fowl Key" after General James Foulke's landing party on November 12th 1779 during his exploration of what is now Polk County while searching for new territory to claim after losing to Spain at the Battle of San Jacinto near Pensacola Gulf Coast on October 31st 1781. This name change likely happened because many people mistook Fowl Key for Key West which at that time lay just north of Tampa Bay on Cuba's eastern coast both sides of the Strait of Hormuz! In 1868 Jno Cope renamed the village "Mietand" after his friend Drury McDowell who had bought much acreage adjacent to modern day Maito Park from General David Levy for $2 per acre (this property includes today's downtown). McDowell donated additional land east of town which became known as "Hollywood", also giving rise to nearby Hollywood Sign National Monument(). Today Hollywood Boulevard runs parallel to Drury Road through center city Miato proper while State Route 4 winds its way through rural portions making its way northeastward into central Polk County finally terminating at I-4 exit 9A about 6 miles southof downtown Gadsden

Maitland is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Maitland was founded in 1892 by General James H. McAllister and his family as a small farming community on the edge of what is now Interstate 95. The townsite was named for Colonel George Maitland, an American general who fought in Mexico and during the Indian Wars. In 1892, General McAllister's father founded Ansonia Plantation near present-day Maitland to provide land for irrigation projects and to house military officers' families. When the railroad arrived in 1902, Ansonia became a tiny village with stores and service buildings serving both communities. A post office called Maitland was established in 1903, but it changed its name to Jacksonville in 1907 after becoming an incorporated city under state law. In 1927, Jacksonville annexed all of west Polk County (including east Ansonia), forming Jacksonville proper into one municipality; this annexation selected Maitland as its seat because there were no other villages or towns within Jacksonville's boundaries at that time. In 1933–1934, following the passage of state legislation providing for local government reorganization due to regionalism concerns about increasing Tampa Bay Area population size (and consequent competition for resources), Jax annexed all of north Palm Beach County (excluding Stonington) as well as Flagler County (to form Seminole County). At first glance this may appear to be contradictory: geographically Jax should have annexed only east Palm Beach County while Seminole should have been annexed into Jax; however both annexation events were motivated by jealousy of nearby Tampa Bay Area cities which had grown larger than any previous municipalities on Florida's Gulf coast without correspondingly annexing any smaller counties within their borders. With respect to history/location: when Jax annexed eastern Palm Beach Counties it did so because they felt that they had been cheated out of their share of taxation generated from development along I-95 corridor between Tampa and Orlando - something that neighboring cities such as Tallahassee and Gainesville had not seen since before Reconstruction (~1870). Additionally Evergreen Farms south of downtown Jacksonville contained some valuable citrus acreage which sat undeveloped until after World War II when Citrus Research Corporation moved their plant there from Plantation Key near Fort Pierce; Evergreen has ever since been property owned by Citrus Research Corporation trust although portions are leased back to municipalities such as Jupiter FL&MLS LLC who manage it through an agreement with SRP Land Management Company Incorporated.) Accordingly – despite claims made by some residents during recent years that they "don't want" annexation because they would then become "partners" with adjacent Cities like Tallahassee etc., annexation actually happened due more to political settlement than anything else - most likely prompted somewhat arbitrarily by City leaders looking for ways To increase revenue potential off I-95 corridor rather than develop anything close thereto)
