Lynn Haven is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–PortMiami Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lynn Haven was named for Admiral Lord Howe of Great Britain who surveyed and charted the area in 1795. The first permanent settler in what is now Lynn Haven was James Giddings who arrived on December 12, 1804 from Liverpool, England with his family. Giddings set up a mill on the West End River near present day Federal Highway 6 and founded the village which he named after Admiral Lord Howe of Great Britain. In 1815 Giddings sold all his land to Jno. Hesseltine and erected a log cabin where he lived until his death in 1827. This cabin still stands next to present day State Road 6 south of town limits (the original name of US-6). It is now known as "Hesseltine House". Captain John Nielsen came to Lynn Haven in 1834 and built a store on Main Street opposite Hesseltine House; this store closed about 1890 when mail service moved to Miami University's new campus across Fort Lauderdale Boulevard. Captain Nielsen's house still stands today along US-6 between Government Cutoff Road east of town limits and County Rd 625 north of town boundaries - it is also known as "Nielsen's Store" or simply "The Store". In 1840 Lieutenant John Fenton established a post office at Lynn Haven with six postal items: one package per week; Augustus Sprague served as Postmaster until 1863 when he resigned because he wanted more money for military expenses during the American Civil War (he died two years later). A post office called Boca Raton opened in 1865 but closed within two years due to lack of customers; it reopened under another name in 1870 before finally closing again around 1902 because no one wanted to open a second post office here anymore given that Boca Raton had become an international city by then with its own mailbox service! Ulysses S Grant served as Postmaster from 1893 until 1897 during which time there were only three stamps issued: 1¢ postage stamp (1893), 2¢ stamp (1894), 2¢ nickel stamp (1896). All other issues stopped production except for 1¢ stamps which continued into 1903 continuing until they were discontinued completely due to high demand! In 1907 Robert Wirtz purchased The Store from Captain Nielsen and reopened it under the new name "Wirtz's." From 1910 through 1916 William Pape ran The Store while serving as Mayor of Lynn Haven. During World War I The Store produced 3 cents worth of stamps per week which helped support local war efforts However, due to high demand after World War I all operations ceased again including both Postal Stamps production! In 1928 Wirtz’s widow Alice reopened The Store under her own name once more although she continued operating it until her death in 1951; it then passed hands among her children until 1979 when it went out of business once again! In 1984 Karyl Ann Wirtz took over ownership from her mother Alice Wirtz and kept operation going until 2001 when she sold it back to the City Of Lynn Haven for $2 million makinglynhavenhistory@yahoomail.com .
