Lynn Haven is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,904 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ferry Pass–Escambia Micropolitan Statistical Area. Lynn Haven was founded in 1881 by Capt. John Auld and his wife Sarah Patton as a station on the Asbury Park Railroad. The town became an incorporated municipality in 1907. In 1960, it merged with adjacent towns of Mayport to form what is now Escambia County. The first settler in Lynn Haven was Capt., John Auld who arrived from Aberdeen, Scotland on November 11th 1881 with his family and six slaves while traveling through the area on business for the Asbury Park Railroad company. After spending a year constructing their home on what is now Main Street (now US-27), Capt., Auld's family decided to move permanently to Lynn Haven and started building a trading post which they named "Moses". The first post office was established at Moses on February 20th 1902 due to the fact that mail had not yet been brought into town from Mayport then booming trade center across Pensacola Bay. By 1909, there were three stores located in Lynn Haven - one run by Mrs Wm Murchison (soon Mrs Donelson) and two operated by Captain Auld himself - along with a general store and five blacksmiths' shops all serving various needs of both residents and travelers alike including repairs for boats or baseball bats! In 1913 Captain Auld donated land north of present day First Street for school purposes; before long students from all over eastern Florida were attending local schools here! Townspeople enjoyed hosting "steamboat races" seasonally during these years as many vessels would dock here for supplies/stores etc.. One such event occurred on March 3rd 1916 when USS "Wichita" docked here after her maiden voyage around Cape Bonita Island!! Captain Edwin & Sarah's oldest son John Fenton (1889-1969) played football for US Naval Academy team vs UK Naval Academy team in 1909 which US Navy won 14–0 In 1916 Lynnhaven made history when they were chosen by Governor Sunray Robinson to be the temporary seat of government for Hillsborough County until new county seats could be found In 1922 Captain Edwin & Sarah’s youngest son Ralph Jourdain (1891-1976) came home from college & bought 80 acres adjoining his parents’ land near present day Hialeah Beach Boulevard just east of downtown – this would become what is now called Ralph’s Landing Park today In 1934 Captain Edwin & Sarah's widow Mrs. Caryl Jourdain donated her home across from Hialeah Beach Boulevard from her estate back into public ownership becoming Lynnhaven Park property which still remains today
