Lynn Haven is a small town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was laid out by farmers in 1892. Lynn Haven grew rapidly during World War I because of its proximity to Battery Park City and the Naval Shipyard on Pinellas Island. After the war, many manufacturing plants closed and Lynn Haven lost its status as a center for science and technology. However, businesses have returned to the community since 2000 when it became home to two universities: Stetson University and Hillsborough State University. In addition, several high-end homes have been built in recent years near downtown Lynn Haven; these include The Pines Clubhouse and Harbour House Marina (both designed by architect Chip Renfro), which are both owned by real estate magnate Harry Mackay Jr.. Lynn Haven has a rich history that can be traced back to 1892 when farmers laid out their land around what would become Lynn Haven Township. At that time, it was known as "Buddy Bay", due to its close proximity to Tampa Bay and its rich fishing resources. The first settler in what would become Lynn Haven Township was John Mowry who arrived in 1892 with his family from Massachusetts.. On October 12th of that year they erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street within today's village boundaries - just east of where US 19 meets US 41 (the present day arterial road). That first cabin served as the nucleus around which development quickly took root - with new settlers coming each year until 1916 when all but one of the original families had departed for good due to various reasons such as health concerns or political instability in America following World War I (). It wasn't until after World War II did changes begin to take place within this small rural community - with steady growth rate from 1951 through 1990 despite much competition from larger cities nearby (. According to some estimates up until then Stetson University/Hillsborough State had created over 250 jobs directly or indirectly within Moranbah Industrial Park adjacent to downtown). This growth continued into the late 21st century through suburbanization/ gentrification (- resulting layoffs among formerly employed locals) spearheaded by developers like Harry Mackay Jr., who purchased tracts of ruralMLK county land between 1988-1992 for use as an industrial park; hosting large corporate sites such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company before they relocated elsewhere while also draining much water table space essential for agriculture (& subsequently causing large droughts throughout parts of inland Florida) . In 1916, following World War I, Lynn Haven was placed within Hillsborough County's new government under the jurisdiction of Clearwater Beach. However, despite this change in jurisdictional status, little progress was made in making the town more likeable or attracting tourists until after World War II when new development began at nearby Clearwater Beach while Lynn Haven continued to languish economically. In recent years much effort has been made by local officials to revive the town's fortunes through various initiatives such as providing More than just Seafood: A History of Lynn Haven , which documents how special ingredients have contributed dynamically towards their resurgence since 2000; developing an architecture museum called "The Gilded Age" which showcases local maritime artifacts from throughout history; creating an annual festival that celebrates seafood culture statewide; and increasing tourism opportunities through marketing campaigns such as hot air balloons flights over downtown during summer months
In Lynn Haven, Florida history, the city was founded by Captain James A. Fitzpatrick and his family in 1836. The city became a stop on the Underground Railroad, which helped slaves escape to freedom. In 1854, the city was named after President Franklin D. Roosevelt of the United States.
