The name was changed in 1945 to honor Admiral Chester Nimitz because he had served as governor of Florida from 1944-1946. During World War II, Lynn Haven became a military airbase used by both American and British forces. In 1959, it merged with neighboring communities of Clearwater Beach and Stonington to form what is now known as Lynn Haven Township. In 1965, local residents voted to remove all sound restrictions from their municipality while they were considering annexation by Hillsborough County; this led to the founding of Hillsborough County's first governing body - the commissioners court - which has governed Lynn Haven since then. As part of that merger process, however, some residents in Lynn Haven chose to remain separate municipalities rather than become part of Hillsborough County altogether; this choice has been met with criticism from some county officials who charge that it amounts to secessionism within an existing county government. Today, Lynn Haven remains one of Polk County's most rural areas with only 2% (at its 2010 population)of its total land area devotedto industry or commercial production - compared with over 50% for Tampa and Jacksonville combined. Nonetheless, it retains a strong reputation for being one of the most peaceful places in Florida thanks largely to its small-town atmosphere and lack thereofahigh-profile crime rates (although there have been occasional incidents).

Haven as a result of the purchase of land from the Miami Indians. The name Lynn Haven was chosen to honor Mrs. Anna L. Lynn who donated $5,000 towards the development of Lynn Haven. The first settlers in Lynn Haven were Mr. and Mrs. James Kapp who moved into the town on October 15th, 1893 from Easton, Pennsylvania. They had two children: Edwin and Evalyn Kapp. The next arrivals were Messrs andMrs Wm Fenton who arrived on November 6th, 1893 having come down from Stonington Township in Connecticut with their three children: Everett Fenton, Mary Gentry Fenton and Clifford Ayer Fenton Jr.. They began to farm the land which they would later subdivide into lots for sale to new settlers. The first post office was established at Lynn Haven on December 12th, 1892 by Jno Bigham with Mrio as his first name and Anna as his second name; it operated under the name “Easton” until 1898 when it changed its name to “Lynn Haven” due to objections from other towns in Dade County about being named after a person from another county! On January 1st 1894 Mr Wm Copley became the first settler of Lynn Haven when he purchased 4 acres from James Kapp for $50USD . On October 3rd 1895 Rev Geo Hargrave became an official settler when he purchased 20 acres from James Kapp for $100USD . He built a house called “Haven House” which still stands today within walking distance of Snohomish Park near where he lived until his death in 1934! Families started coming more frequently so that by 1896 there were six families residing in Lynn Haven: Mr & Mrs Copley (2), Messrs & Mrs Fenton (3), Rev Geo Hargrave (20), Phebe & George Addison (1)… By 1907 there were 10 families living in Town including 8 women and 2 men! By 1912 only 3 residents remained: Rev Geo Hargrave (76yrs old), Mrs Addison (& her son) & Phebe (& her husband). At this time all commercial business had been relocated outside of town so that resources could be devoted more fully to developing Snohomish Park! In 1916 during World War I many servicemen came through town looking for work but few found permanent housing so most stayed overnight at various hotels or transient camps set up around town before returning home early morning without any formalities being done! Afterward things slowly resumed as normal with businesses starting up once again but soon after World War II ended social unrest started brewing due to high taxes levied against small businesses following VE Day commemorating America’s victory over Germany!!! In 1946 after many petitions/letters/demonstrations people finally voted overwhelmingly (8000+ signatures) not to rezone their part of town specifically designated for military housing !! Since then 40 years have passed with very little change except some new homes being built here AND THERE HAS BEEN NO TURNBACK!!Quite simply Lynhaven is one long story made up of many events that have led up to its current state!!!
