Longwood is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Naples-Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1910 and named after General James Longstreet. It was originally located on the Parke County line but moved to Polk County in 1912. The first store opened in 1914 and the first post office opened in 1916. In 1922, the county seat was transferred from New Orleans to Longwood, and then to Tampa in 1933. In 1959, Longwood became an unincorporated community within Polk County as a result of its incorporation into the metropolitan area of Naples-Marco Island. Today, Longwood remains an independent municipality with its own government and schools though it does share services with Naples-Marco Island through cooperative agreements such as transportation and firefighting

In 1933, the Smith & Wesson company merged with Colt Firearms Company, creating the Colt Mustang series handguns. These handguns were designed for both law enforcement and self-defense use. The pistols were version of the existing revolvers, but they featured a new frame design that made them more reliable and stronger. Each pistol also had a different grip handle style which helped make them easier to hold. By 1954, the Colt Mustang series pistols had been replaced by the Colt Python series firearms. These firearms were designed specifically for SWAT team use and were much more powerful than their predecessors. The Python series handguns became well-known for their reliability and firepower when used in high-stress situations such as hostage negotiations or riots.

Longwood is a small town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. Longwood is located in eastern Broward County and shares borders with Pompano Beach to the north and Westchester County to the east. The community was founded by English colonists as "Langwort" on November 5, 1837. The name change came about because of its location near Fort Lauderdale on Biscayne Bay, which had been under Spanish control since 1763. In 1838, a group of Germans settled here and began trading with local Indians; this trade led to the founding of what would become Longwood's first school in 1839. A post office called Langwort was established in 1840; it changed its name to Longwood in 1846 when it became part of Broward County. In 1898, Longwood formed a township when it annexed land from Pompano Beach Township; that year also marked the beginning of construction on what would become Broward High School (nowBroward Schools). In 1910, Longwood incorporated as a city; at that time its population numbered only 1,100 residents. That same year saw the opening of Longwood Municipal Airport – then known as Floridian Regional Airport – which would serve as home base for many local businesses over the years. In 1973, after years of planning and fundraising by Mayor Roy Jinks and civic leaders alike, Longwoods first municipal pool opened following many years of dedication by members of the community swimming team (later renamed “the Dolphins”). Today’s pool features both men’s and women’s pools complete with an Olympic-sized diving board for those who wish to try their hand at diving (or just relax!). The pool also includes a three-lane children’s pool perfect for younger siblings or others not old enough to swim unassisted! As one may imagine given its isolated location within so much larger county—and even greater metropolitan area—Longwood has experienced continuous growth throughout its history culminating today with almost 8300 residents living within easy commuting distance2! This growth has come through annexation/incorporation into adjacent municipalities such as Kendall Park Village3 (to our south), Cross Creek Ranch4(to our west) and Eagle Ridge Lakeshore5(to our north) all while still keeping true to its core values: independence & self-reliance! Today there are plenty of things happening here that remind us why we chose this place: beauty contests sponsored by high schools3!, world championships held here4!, military reunions6!), music festivals7!), golf tournaments8!) etc.; but most importantly we have each other – friends who share common interests9!), family gatherings10!) and lots more things happening everyday11)!
Longwood was founded in 1837 by Colonel John Long and his wife, Lucy. The town served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, helping fugitive slaves escape to freedom. In 1865, Longwood became the capital of Florida.
