Longwood is a city in Polk County, Florida. The population was 10,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee–West Palm Beach–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Longwood was founded in 1878 by landowner John Hightower and named after his brother, Dr. Arthur Longwood, an American doctor who lived in England during the Revolutionary War. The City of Longwood was incorporated on December 3, 1901. The first school in Longwood was built on what is now Main Street in 1879-80. In 1902, the first high school opened in town and it served grades 9-12 until 1959. In 1968, the Second District School Board added grades K-2 to its school system; this gave Longwood students access to two schools that were located within walking distance of each other instead of one large school building that would have been too expensive to operate and maintain. In 1984, Pinellas County pulled out all financial support for local public schools due to budget cuts fueled by the recession; this led to a restructuring of education throughout South Florida which ultimately affected Longwood as well as many other communities across Palm Beach County For many years after this debacle, parents choice has been important with regards to elementary and middle schools within our city limits while Lake Butler Elementary remains a magnet for talented prekindergarten through 8th grade students from both urban neighborhoods adjacent to our corporate campus boundaries (northwest side) as well as rural neighborhoods east/ southeast of us surrounded by agricultural lands including Pineland Farms reservoir & wetlands near SR 441E). However recent construction projects at our high school have forced some uncomfortable choices about which type or brand Of educations system their children will attend – we are currently trying out new lunchroom design ideas! According to 2000 Census data there were 11% African Americans living in town while 94% White European American residents identified themselves as such; however since 2000 when Hispanics made up 13% of all residents they have become more visible with “Mi Familia” grocery stores sprouting up throughout town catering exclusively to Latinos (including Mexican immigrants who began purchasing homes here during the late 1990s real estate boom). Hispanic nightlife has also become increasingly popular with continuous expansion into retail spaces north/central downtown longwood and along SR 441E just south of US Highway 1A where you can find several trendy spots like Solis CantinaMexican restaurant open late every night featuring margaritas & Tecate Beer while El Rey nightclub features live music nightly 5 nights a week followed by dancing lessons on Fridays evenings Saturdays mornings etc.). All told these places make for an interesting mix not just because so many people from one community are active participants but also because they provide a safe haven from daily gridlock backed up traffic along I-95 corridor

Longwood is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,636 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The first settler in Longwood was James Biddle who arrived in 1835 from Kentucky. He named his land "Biddle's Corners" after himself and his son John Biddle. In 1839, Isaac Copley bought 5 acres (20,000 m²) of land at Biddle's Corners for $5 per acre. Copley built a log cabin and named it "Cotton Hill". Cotton Hill became the first post office in Longwood on October 22, 1840. In 1845, Milton Sibley purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of land west of Cotton Hill for $10 per acre ($100 total). He named it "Sibley's Valley". In 1850, Isaac Sibley sold his valley to George Washington Dixon for $25 per acre ($250 total). Dixon renamed his land "Dixon's River". In 1860s Samuel Beasley donated 10 acres (30,000 m²) to Longwood as a free gift from his father-in-law David Beasley. In 1865 he donated 10 more acres (30,000 m²) to Longwood as an additional free gift from his father-in-law David Beasley Sr.. These donations allowed for the establishment of schools and churches in Longwood during that era; these properties are now known as Old Town Square and North Main Street respectively. In 1886 Drury Hargrave donated 100 acres (40 km²) east of Dixon's River to Longwood for development into what is now Fairfield Square . This donation also allowed for the construction of many homes in Fairfield Square today including The Oaks Apartments which are still standing today! In 1925 Drury Hargrave donated another 100 acres (40 km²) east of Dixon's River toLongwoods future neighbor Palm Beach County for development into what is now Boynton Beach . This donation also allowed for the construction of many homes in Boynton Beach today including The Colony House! Today there are over 2 million residents living within easy commuting distance with access to almost every shopping mall and major airport within driving distance!
