Lighthouse Point is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,694 at the 2010 census. Lighthouse Point is on the Gulf of Mexico about 8 miles (13 km) south of Jacksonville and 3 mi (4 km) north of Fort Myers. It has a history dating back to 1836 when lighthouse keeper Isaac Sawyer built a small trading post on the point. The first lighthouse in Lighthouse Point was established in 1836 by Isaac Sawyer. For many years it served as an aid to navigation on the mouth of the St Johns River. In 1875, Lighthouse Point became a town and saw its first residents come ashore to trade with local fishermen until 1907 when a fire destroyed most of the buildings at the trading post and Post Office. In 1916, Lighthouse Point became part of Jacksonville and lost its status as an independently functioning town though it still retains some vestige of autonomy including several farms that are administered by Municipal Services Department employees who maintain them for public use such as water rights, trash collection etc., as well as restrictions on land development within city limits

The current lighthouse replaced an earlier lighthouse which was destroyed by fire in 1903. The present-day Lighthouse Point community began to form around the ruins of the original Lighthouse Point settlement in 1852 when Captain John C. Lewis' family purchased land near the mouth of the Kissimmee River for farming purposes. By 1860, the population of Lighthouse Point had grown to around 100 citizens and it functioned as a small trading post until 1868 when it became an official post office under state law. In 1893, following years of growth and development at Lighthouse Point, a new lighthouse was built onsite and became operational that year. Following World War II, many residents decided to move away from their rural setting and settled into new towns throughout central Florida due to changes in housing prices and job opportunities during that time period. However, few people ever moved back to live at LighthousePoint after leaving for other communities throughout central Florida; instead most residents continue to reside there today because of its secluded setting and unique history. LighthousePoint's unique history began with its founding as a tiny trading post on the banks of the Kissimmee River over 50 years ago – now it's home to more than 100 locals who call it their "second home." Over that time period, significant events have occurred at or near LighthousePoint including: 1) A major fire destroyed the original lighthouse at Lighthouse point in1857; 2) A second major fire destroyed this same structure just two years later but again resulting in no fatalities; 3) A third major fire consumed both structures during 1906 yet this one resulted only in minor damage; 4) It wasn't until 1915 when another substantial arson attack took place - this time destroying both structures completely - which highlighted how difficult it would be for firefighters even if they were not directly threatened within these buildings themselves; 5) It wasn't until 1947 when local resident Captian John C Lewis donated land adjacent to his childhood home upriver from where he currently resides for use as an additional landing spot for Yachtboats ferrying tourists downriver between our beautiful Lake Okeechobee & Fort Myers Island - making him one of very few individuals from any era or location who has donated such valuable property (along with his childhood home); 6) Both structures remain standing today although much restoration work has been completed since their initial destruction; 7) Today marks both 50th anniversary anniversaries of Captain John C Lewis donation & permanent relocation of iconic Yachtboat landing spot @Lighthousepoint!
