Red Dot Sight History in Lighthouse Point, Florida Lighthouse Point is located in Brevard County,Florida and was established as a lighthouse on December 12th, 1824. It became a lighthouse station on October 1st, 1853. On May 1st, 1907 the Lighthouse Station at Lighthouse Point was transferred to the State of Florida and became part of the state's system of aids-to-the-family-time period lights. The present day red dot sight is located within the boundaries of the former Lighthouse Station property. It was first lighted by an assistant keeper who used what is now known as the Fresnel lens from 1854 until 1861 when it was automated by an Emery cannon operated from 1863 until 1912 using a reflector andamp; Cooke telescope. From 1912 until 1915 it was manned by a master operator with help from assistants using a reflector andamp; Cooke telescope also from 1913 to 1916. In 1917 it reverted back to an assistant keeper position with help from another master operator assisted by assistants for 5 years before reverting back again to its original role as an assistant Keeper in 1921 with additional assistance coming from clerks working out of Stonington office starting on September 1st 1922 till 1934 when it became fully automated under control of Director Islely & Sons Incorporated.. In 1931 Director Islely retired effective January 1st 1932 leaving all duties associated therewith to their successors Most Revd Dr Jens Nielsen and Mrs Orde Beasley both appointed Assistant Keepers with directorship vested in them immediately following their appointment which continued until 1954 when they were succeeded by Mr Rolfe Hagen who ran this red dot sight continuously since then except during World War II periods when operation passed through various hands including Mrs Hagen's son Mr Wm C Hagen who took over operations 1945 thru 1949 Since 1954 red dot sights have been run through Fidelity Optics Corporation which has continued operation under contract thru 2006 The history of reddot sights dates back more than 50 years! At first these were manually operated devices that only served as aids to navigation while stationed ashore or at night.
