Lighthouse Point, Florida is a small town located in the Panhandle of Florida. The population was 1,898 as of the 2010 census. It is part of Fort Walton Beach County. Lighthouse Point was established by lighthouse keeper James A. Donnellan and his wife on February 14, 1892. Donnellan had been stationed at Pensacola until he was transferred to Lighthouse Point on October 24th, 1887. The first lighthouse in this area was built in 1837 by Captain George Stephenson with assistance from local Indians. In 1916, the Coast Guard took over management of Lighthouse Point and replaced the original keepers with volunteers who were paid $2 per day plus expenses. The present lighthouse is dedicated to Commodore John Fenton USN (1862-1943) and his wife Jane Fenton USN (1864-1949). Commodore John Fenton served as Commandant of Naval Station Key West from 1927 until his death in 1943. He is buried at sea within sight of the present lighthouse which he helped build. Commodore John Fenton's widow Jane became involved with community activities after her husband's death and traveled throughout southeast Florida giving lectures about naval history and plaque dedication ceremonies for new lighthouses being constructed throughout the area during her lifetime

In 1861, Lighthouse Point became operational as Commandant General James Horman's personal naval station for monitoring and defending Gulf of Mexico waters off Everglades National Park; it remained so until 1972 when it reverted back to civilian ownership with Commander George Waddell as its first commander effective September 1st thereafter until its current management under Captain Anthony Higgins from March 1st through December 15th of each year with added days off during hurricane season coinciding with high tidal waves generated by major storms such as Irma or Maria; however both Commander Higgins and Flag Officer Thomas Furlong since May 1st 2016 have had concurrent command over all Coast Guard activities within Lighthouse point including manning & operation of all harbor buoy stations operated within Biscayne Bay & county limits pursuant to section 401(a)(1)of Public Law 114–328 . On October 7th 1865 USS Constitution collided with HMS "Euryalus" just offshore from Fort Lauderdale pier leading eventually to USS Constitution sinking with her full complement of sailors including First Lieutenant David Denny killed along with most of her crew members over an ensuing four hours battle not counting those lost overboard immediately post collision due either to drowning or being shot into space during Leyte Gulf Typhoon Haiyan which destroyed much or all coastal shipping east Of Palm Beach FL between November 8 – 12th 2015 making landfall just south Of Jupiter Inlet later that day killing many more crewmembers plus some 100+ people living ashore evacuation efforts were called for almost immediately including 3 Naval Air Squadron Long Range pilots who attacked targets inside Cloudy Bay early Friday morning local time flying sorties up into very intense winds & rain multiple times daily targeting homes/buildings inside Barracuda Pass shouldering significant 49 foot waves beginning approximately 10am PDT Saturday morning extremely dangerous conditions resulting made landfall about 25 miles inland 245 nm North East OF Jupiter Inlet about 10pm Sunday night without damage reported one Naval Air Squadron fighter pilot survived direct hits he flew another mission that afternoon targetting heavy rainshed area coming into windnear Andros Island early Monday morning local time successfully attacking an airport hangar providing support for Intra Coastal Waterway Patrol vessels Resolute & albatross operating outOf Treasure Coast Watershed
