Lighthouse Point is a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lighthouse Point is located on the south bank of Everglades River between Biscayne Bay and Key Biscayne Bay, about 12 miles (19 km) west of downtown Miami and 5 miles (8 km) east of Lighthouse Point Marina on the mainland opposite South Beach. The first lighthouse built at Lighthouse Point was erected in 1847 by Captain John Atwater for use as a marina/cargo harbor for his vessels offshore from Fort Lauderdale. In 1902, Lighthouse Point became an incorporated town after it was selected as one of six sites for a proposed lighthouse station on Key Biscayne Bay by Commissioners George Hearn and Gideon Welles. After construction began in 1903, only four years elapsed before problems witherratic waves caused the Station to be closed down due to lack of funds and manpower; however new appropriations enabled it to reopen in 1911. In 1967, following recommendations by then-Mayor David Dinkins, Lighthouse Point voters passed a referendum authorizing annexed land directly across the bay from present day Lighthouse Point Marina to create what would become known as "Lighthouse Boulevard" extending out into key Biscayne Bay communities including Pinellas Park and Clearwater Beach. This act placed significant development pressure on this former fishing village which had been constrained within its original boundaries since 1923 when commissioners purchased most of what now constitutes the city limits of Boynton Beach from heirs to Maurice McMillin's sugar cane plantation interests. The community started experiencing rapid growth during the early 2000s as developers responded to beachfront property values increasing 20-fold over that time period while accessibility improved through nearby expressways making it easyto get around town center areas like North Shore Drive or Federal Highway 98B becoming pedestrian friendly zones while also accommodating large commercial developments such as One Financial Center dating back to 1979 which has since been completed next door adjacent to St Peters Catholic Church giving residents even more conveniences including direct access onto Interstate 95 freeway northbound just minutes away via Sunrise Boulevard Extension

Lighthouse Point is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Lighthouse Point is located on the east coast of South Florida and adjoining Flagler County. It straddles the shore of Miami Bay and has a land area of . Lighthouse Point first received its light in 1814 from an old sawmill on the banks of Miami River. In 1896, it became a post office with ZIP code 33309. Stated mission of Lighthouse Point: "To provide information to mariners by providing lights at night." The first lighthouse was built in 1814 as part of Fort Dixie's defenses against Spanish pirates. A second tower was added in 1847 and then a third in 1861 due to increased shipping traffic around the mouth of Miami River caused by the Indian Wars. In 1896, Lighthouse Point became part of Miami-Dade County when it was created from land that had been annexed by that city. At first, only male lighthouse keepers manned the lighthouses; however, women soon began visiting as well and Tillman Hall (the present day Administration Building) opened as a visitor center in 1907. In 1926, two new towers were constructed at Lighthouse Point - one on North Biscayne Boulevard and one on Sunrise Boulevard - replacing an original structure which had been destroyed by fire years earlier. The last keeper left duty at Lighthouse Point on November 15th 1972 after more than 170 years service! On October 25th 1978 major Hurricane Andrew passed through South Florida completely destroying most homes along both coasts including much damage done to infrastructure such as water pipes etc., this led to many refugees coming ashore looking for refuge although there were no open ports or safe havens available until aftermath lifted restrictions/mobs arrived). Many people still visit today not just for tourism but also for history reasons since most structures remain standing including administration building including museum now open daily except Mondays when closed due to Hurricane Irma impact), views from topdeck lookout (highest point within town limits), gift shop (), restaurant (now reopened as pink lobster restaurant ), blacksmith shop (), post office (), 3 small shops (+1 store added since 2010)
