Lighthouse Point is a tiny town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. At the time of its incorporation as a township on November 3, 1892, Lighthouse Point had only two buildings: the old lighthouse and a Methodist church. The first shots heard in Lighthouse Point were fired by Captain John Suggs of the U.S. Revenue Cutter Miami during her maiden voyage on December 12, 1892. Lighthouse Point was originally established for military purposes; it served as an artillery range used by both America's Volunteer Cavalry and the United States Marines from 1898 until 1906. The lighthouse was automated and turned over to the town on October 1st, 1966; it has been unmanned since then. In 1905, Lighthouse Point became home to one of America's first gun ranges when Fort Myers Shooting Club opened its grounds at 6167 Gulf Boulevard. Fort Myers Shooting Club was located adjacent to what is now Veterans Memorial Park off US-1 in neighboring Cape Canaveral . It operated until 1984 when it closed due to lack of membership.. In 1990 Fort Myers Shooting Club reopened at 5690 Estero Road which currently houses American Legion Post #527. The range continued operations through 1992 when it merged with nearby Lee County Gun Range (now Cooperstown Shooters Association) which also operated out of that property for many years before closing in 2002 due to financial troubles. In 2006 Lee County Gun Range reopened at its current location beside Veteran’s Memorial Park after renovations costing $2 million dollars - making this one of only three gun ranges in Florida that still operates today!

The third lighthouse was built on the present site of Lighthouse Point in 1829 and served until 1957 when it became a state park. The current lighthouse is located on Just Island off of State Road 7A close to the mouth of Stonington River. Lighthouse Point is one of only three townships within Nassau County that are still incorporated with full local government control under its own sheriff, fire chief, town clerk, andumerous other elected officials (the others being Hempstead Township and Farmingdale). As such, Lighthouse Point has many unique features which include its self- governance system which has been effective in maintaining law and order while accommodating differing opinions from its residents about various issues; as well as its long history dating back to early colonial times when trading posts were established along this stretch of coastline for goods coming into or departing England
