In 1892, Lighthouse Point was annexed by Jacksonville. The first lighthouse at the location was built in 1827. In 1868, the light was moved to a new tower on what is now Amelia Island. Lighthouse Point is a secluded and picturesque town in Pasco County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. The lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico near Fort Myers. The first lighthouse at Lighthouse Point was built in 1827 by Commodore James Cook while he was exploring the Florida Keys. Commodore Cook named the new light "Cook's Lighthouse" after his friend and mentor Sir John Hawkins who had helped him explore the area back in 1794. The original lighthouse was destroyed by fire in 1872 but a replacement was erected nearby soon afterward. In 1898, Lighthouse Point became part of US Naval Station Key West and remained that way until 1957 when it reverted to its original status as an unincorporated community under US jurisdiction. In 1962-1963, US Coast Guard personnel established a buoy watch from nightfall to sunrise at Lighthouse Point which continues to this day; however, since then no major activities have occurred at the point during daylight hours save for occasional public access during low tide or for vessels docking at Key West docks during high tide The last keeper of the old lighthouse died in 1978 and it has been vacant ever since due to lack of resources as well as vandalism by local residents over time (although some restoration work has been conducted). Governor Rick Scott declared March 17th 2009 as National Ghost Day in order To reverence all those who have passed away awaiting burial or cremation within state boundaries without leaving behind any physical remains . As per state statute 9 Buncombe County Code § 5-4-2 : “No person shall cause any human remains buried or interred anywhere within Buncombe County without first obtaining written consent from relatives or next of kin before doing so” . There are now several organizations working towards resurrecting these lost souls such as Our Lady Of Peace Cemetery which administers both Hardship Graves burials (for those whose family cannot visit them)and Memorial Burial Services which provides reburial services for individuals who have passed away outside Buncombe County limits ." In addition many other smaller cemeteries throughout North Carolina carry similar statutes governing when human remains may be disturbed etc...It should also be noted that many families simply do not have enough money/time/energy available to go through the hassle of burying their loved ones locally anymore... Consequently many notable luminaries like Elvis Presley , Marilyn Monroe , Jay Leno & Billy Crystal have all reputedly taken home private cemeteries rather than visit our beautiful state capital Raleigh ." According to Drs., Linda Ackerly & Donna Jorgensen: "...the popularity of ghost hunting across America has caused more people than ever before to want information about what happens behind Closed Doors." ....Ackerly goes onto say "While some ghosts reside only inside lighthouses themselves, others haunt abandoned buildings such as hospitals or government complexes full of secrets long forgotten by humans." ....Many communities across America now prohibit visits by anyone under 18 years old while visiting historic sites regardless if accompanied by an adult......?"

Lighthouse Point, Florida is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lighthouse Point is located on U.S. 1 north of Kissimmee and east of Sanford. The first lighthouse in Lighthouse Point was built in 1847 as a coastal defense measure to keep out pirates from attacking the region's maritime interests and shipping lanes. By 1850, two more lighthouses had been erected at Lighthouse Point—one for marine uses and one for town purposes—and by 1861, three additional lights had been added to help guide vessels through the channels between Lighthouse Key and Jacksonville Landing on Florida's west coast. In 1895, a new lighthouse complex was completed including an underground laboratory (later used as a jail) and keeper's cottage; it remained active until its closure in 1959 due to vandalism by students at nearby Central High School. In 1902, Lighthouse Point became home to the world's first radio beacon when construction began on what would become Gainesville Radio Station #1; it operated continuously until 1949 when it was decommissioned due to budgetary cuts within FCC policy at that time. A year later, Gainesville Radio Station #2 came online; both stations were eventually shut down due to budget cutbacks effective January 1st 1978 (). Lighthouse Key reopened as an emergency landing site after Hurricane Andrew destroyed most of Palm Beach County in 1992 because no other landing spot could be found inland or along Lake Okeechobee shoreline (). The first lighthouse at Lighthouse Point was built in 1795, and it served as a navigational aid until 1837 when a second lighthouse was built at nearby Fort Myers Beach. In 1846, Lighthouse Point became part of Jacksonville County and it remained that way until 1959 when it became part of Escambia County.
