Lighthouse Point is a small town located on the panhandle of Florida. It was founded in 1836 as a lighthouse and became an important commercial center during the early 19th century. The town declined in popularity after the American Civil War, but regained its stature as a tourist destination in the late 20th century. A few years later, Captain David Barron chartered two vessels called Egeria and Coralie to explore northwest Florida from Fort Myers to Key West; they sighted land about southeast of present day Lighthouse Point on December 12, 1840 but failed to find any permanent inhabitant or resources thereupon returned home without striking anyurrent ground with their anchors! In 1851–1852 Lieutenant Edward Winslow explored northeast Florida aboard HMS Beagle under Commander John Franklin Page; he sightedland about southwest of present day Lighthouse Point on October 25, 1851 but again failed to find any permanent inhabitant or resources thereupon returned home without striking anyurrent ground with his anchors! During this time period numerous other ships passed through centralFlorida carrying supplies and passengers - most notably USS Constitution (the first Ulysses S Grant) - so no detailed records were kept of these encounters between British warships and native Floridians however some sketches made during these voyages survive including one depicting HMS Beagle's crew playing tag along with natives atoll Bartholomew's Reef! It wasn't until March 10, 1861 when Confederate soldiers occupied LighthousePointbefore retreating back across Tampa Bay following skirmishes with Union troops that authorities could finally establish security around the facility! By 1865 most southernmost lights had been extinguished west of Cape Canaveral so repairs began on Lighthouse Point proper commenced which lasted until 1895 when additional lights were added ashore including a fourth keeper’s quarters above storehouses overlooking Gulf Harbor! In recognition of its importance as a commercial center during the early 19th century, many items deemed valuable for shipment abroad were stored here such as cannons captured during American Revolutionary War battles like George Washington’s presidential cannonball (estimated value $1 million USD today) and Montreal Gazette editor James McNeill Whistler’s printing press valued at $225 thousand USD currently residing within storage area adjacentto old post office building still standing today!!! On July 20th 1890 two rifles – Samuel Colt’s Model Kentucky Pistol & Enfield Rifle – each weighing 30 lbs each were unloaded from carriages near old wharf & placed outdoors near powder magazine prior touseforrange #3 & 4!! At this point local resident Wm Henson purchased pistols from contractors @5¢ per oz plus freight etc… They remained locked up inside powder magazine until 1911 when Superintendent Lewis Fenton leased them out touseforfederalguns !! However, these measures did not seem to beenough to stop crime from happening; by 1970, shootings had increased 50% compared with 1969 levels. In 1976, local officials again placed restrictions on guns - this time limiting ammunition sales only to those who met specific qualifications (such as having been convicted of a felony). However, these measures did not seemto be effective either; by 1978 shootings had increased 100%. Lighthouse Point is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. It is located on the southern tip of Key Largo and is bordered by Kendall to the north, Pompano Beach to the east, Hollywood to the south, and Cutler Bay to the west. In 1847, a group of businessmen from Jacksonville built a lighthouse on an uninhabited island near Lighthouse Point in order to help guide ships into and out of Key Largo Harbor. The first light keeper was appointed in 1849. In 1865, lighthouse keepers began using submarines as navigation aids and in 1896 they erected a windmill for powering lights. The present lighthouse was built between 1925 and 1928 by New York builder Samuel Gravesen with funding from US$1 million provided by Andrew Mellon's American Iron & Steel Corporation. The tower has three octagonal turrets each measuring . Nearby are two runways leading to two pads used for landing helicopters which were added during renovation work in 2009-2010. Lighthouse Point had been threatened with demolition several times since its creation but has always been saved because it functions as both an important tourist destination as well as a museum about early America (the original settlers) which is open daily 9am-4pm except Tuesdays when it’s closed due to Hurricane Irma damage.
