Gun parts history in Lighthouse Point, Florida began with the first firearms being made there in 1847. At that time, the area was known as Fort Pierce. The fort was built to protect the community from Seminole Native Americans and pirates. One of the cannon used at Fort Pierce was a French-made gun called the Révolver which became famous for its accuracy. In 1875, Lighthouse Point became an important stop on the Jacksonville- Tampa Railroad. This made it possible for people to buy goods and services in both cities without having to go far. Ashtabula County, Ohio native George Stephenson developed this railroad system and donated land for it in Jacksonville. It became known as the Stonington extension of the Jacksonville- Tampa Railroad which ran from Miami Beach to Lighthouse Point. Lighthouse Point residents started using guns to protect themselves from Pirates in 1798 when Captain James Cook sailed past while exploring Fernandina Island off of Miami Beach Harbour. He noted that there were no other ships around so he thought he might have found another world! Soon after, local residents were arming themselves with pistols and shotguns to keep their homes safe from pirates who would come by during high season. By 1865, Lighthouse Point had become an important military base due to its position on South Bayou Key betweenFort Myers and Naples FLB (Florida Keys Bight). During World War II, many Naval officers lived at Lighthouse Point because it was one of only a few places on Florida that could accommodate them exclusively Due to this fact, many weapons including rifles and machineguns were produced here at Lighthouse point during World War II.. In 1971, when Lighthouse point was closed down due to budget cuts by then state governor Bob Martinez, all of its guns were confiscated by state police before being auctioned off off off over a period of several months.. The name comes from Lighthouse Key and Point Lookout. The first lighthouse was built at Lighthouse Key in 1824 by Lieutenant John Wolkentin and his men during the Seminole War. It burned down in 1828. A new lighthouse was built on Point Lookout in 1838 by Captain Augustus S. Goodrich with a keeper's house and store building on top of a rock cliff overlooking the harbor. In 1851, when Fort Lauderdale became an incorporated city, Lighthouse Point became its first ward; however, it reverted to its original unincorporated status afterFort Lauderdale annexed neighboring communities including Sunrise on May 14, 1907. In 1912, Lighthouse Key lighthouse lost its Fresnel lens due to corrosion; however, two new lenses were ordered from England and installed in 1914–15 as part of an effort to maintain order along Miami-Dade's coastline during World War I. In 1951–1957 three more lenses were added – one for each eye – resulting in an increase of 16 percent over that period's Fresnel lens size from 360 degrees to 400 degrees F (190 degrees C). All five Fresnel lenses are still working today and make up part of Fort Lauderdale's navigational heritage visible from most points along its shoreline: South Beach (east end), Atlantic Avenue (north end), Miracle Mile (southwest corner), Bayfront Park (central area) and Little Haiti Heights/Forth Worth Circle off Collins Avenue near Palm sterile beach which is home to both Light Station 902 ("Aurora" light) operated by nonprofit Save Our Shorelines Foundation Inc., also known as "Lighthousescription Line", active since FY2013 & used occasionally by BOATCARWALKERS Museumistic Vessels visited this location every day between now & 10am daily www2/lightstation902 When complete construction began on Fort Lauderdale’s first naval base—the old Spanish fort at Longboat Key—on November 12th 1793 Lt John Wolkentin wrote: “This place will be extremely useful for our stationing forces under Col[onel] James Cook when he returns from his Voyage about charting Cape St Vincent!” Captain Goodrich had supervised much construction work within sight ofFort Lauderdale Cove while stationed aboard HMS Pilotfish offshore tasks ashore performing coastal patrols duty June 25-August 5 1800”Erected By His Excellency The Honble Captn Augustus S Goodrich Esqr As Patron Of This Place July 22d 1800 With Appropriate Markings And Signatures Hereunto Engrossed By Commandant At His Helm On High . Even then it took some time before residents started using the key as their primary address… Only after Hurricane Andrew destroyed Fort Myers did people start using Lighthouse point as their primary residence….. During prohibition years all boats moored at anchor off Ft Walton Beach came ashore here so many alcoholics would go into town for supplies…. Today there is a Visitors Center open Monday thru Friday 9 am-4 pm inside Story House History Museum Admission is free Open Saturdays 9 am-3 pm CLOSED Sundays

Lighthouse Point is a census-designated place in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2000 census. Lighthouse Point is located on the mouth of the St. Johns River. Lighthouse Point was first built in 1836 as a lighthouse to guide shipping to and from Cuba during the Spanish American War. After being destroyed by fire in 1851, it was rebuilt with new machinery and materials by Captain George Stephenson and his team of engineers under British military supervision. It became operational as a lighthouse on April 15, 1852. In 1898, Lighthouse Point's keeper's quarters were destroyed by Hurricane Andrew while stranded onshore following an evacuation of citizens from Fort Myers Beach due to damage caused by Hurricane Frances two days earlier. The property was sold to the state of Florida for $10,000 in 1900 and it remains an active lighthouse today despite continuous renovation costings totaling nearly $100 million over its history. The first recorded visit to Lighthouse Point occurred when Father Giovanni da Porto landed at what is now Lighthouse Point on October 20th, 1492 after sailing from Havana with news of Christopher Columbus' landfall in America that year. Father DaCosta left three canoes manned by sixty soldiers at anchor off Cape Canaveral four miles (6 kilometers) southWSW of present-day Lighthouse Point while he made his way ashore to observe this event; they returned after only one day due backtracking because they did not have time to disembark all their supplies and leave without arousing suspicion among nearby natives who could have reported them back to Spain should they return empty-handed). Portuguese explorer Diogo Cunha had also sighted land about mile (1 kilometer) SE of where Cuban pilot Gaspar de Meneses landed his vessel Santiago about two weeks later Jose Fernandez de Ocampo charted this area sometime between September 29th -October 2nd 1504 but no land or vessels were seen until 1511 when Spanish naval officer Don Fernando de Meneses sailed past Cape Canaveral bearing evidence that he had discovered America wide open for settlement.- Pedro Menes sailing from Havana reached St Augustine Bay on October 25th 1500 having traveled 370 miles (500 kilometers) East along Mexican coast before sighting "the great earthquake."
