Gun Cleaning

Gun cleaning and care is an important part of any firearms owner’s repertoire. The gun is a tool that should be treated with respect, and in the case of pistols, it should also be kept clean to prevent the potential for damage. Pistol cleaning methods usually include taking apart the firearm such as disassembly of the frame or actions; rinsing and drying;occasionally using a scope cleaner or air cleaner; and finally, lube (most often WD-40). In Lighthouse Point, Florida over the years there have been many different types of pistols being cleaned and cared for. Lighthouse Point was founded by Spanish settlers in 1795 as Fort San Miguel de Allende on Clearwater Bay. It became an important stop on Spanish navigation because of its strategic location between Tampa Bay and Mobile Bay. In 1821, Lighthouse Point was renamed Fort Brooke after General James Buchanan who had commandeered it during the Seminole Wars. The garrison at Fort Brooke served as a base from which American forces attacked Native American villages near Tampa Bay. In 1834, Captain George Aiken commanded HMS Bounty when she ran into trouble off Hillsborough Island while pursuingpirate Jean Lafitte. Lafitte had taken refuge on this island with his ship's crew after escaping from prison in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Captain Aiken took possession of HMS Bounty without firing a shot and brought her back to English waters where she was destroyed by fire in 1840 while under tow to Liverpool for repairs following her collision with HMS Beagle off Cape St Vincent point two years earlier. Lighthouse Point continued to serve as a naval post until 1915 when all military posts were closed due to World War I restrictions on ships carrying passengers and goods over open water ports like Tampa Bay [1]. During World War II USS Lightning (CV-8) anchored at Clearwater Harbour while awaiting launching operations against Japanese submarines in sink or salvage operations around TampaBay Harbor [2]. On 5 December 1942 USS Constitution (CV-3) hit a mine beneath USS Lightning causing her engine room to flooded inflicting heavy losses including loss of several officers and men; one man died from his injuries [3]. Although Constitution managed to return safely to port before grounding along side Lighting[4], this was onlythe beginningof problems for CVE 8 during this time period[5]. Eventually allAmerican warships were converted into submarines soCV8 would no longer play such an important role within US Naval Forces….. There are numerous types of handguns that can be cleaned according as revolvers (which use manualoperation), semi-automatic pistols/shotguns/pistols chambered in .22 LR calibers only (i.e., Glock 9mm), single action revolvers (SA Rifles & Colts revolvers), five shot bolt action rifles (.308 Winchester) through six shot rifles (.30 caliber ARs), shotguns chambered exclusively in 7MM Luger rounds (& 7 mm Remington cartridges), rimfire guns—specifically Model 1100 Rimfires manufactured by Smith & Wesson & Ruger——all which must be properlycleaned if not used frequently enough)—and assault rifles! Gun cleaning is an important task for any individual who owns a firearm. In order to ensure that your firearm functions properly and remains in top condition, it is necessary to proper clean it at least once a month. Here are some tips on how to do this: 1) Use a mild soap and water solution or an alcohol-based cleaner to clean the firearms’ internals. Be sure not to use harsh chemicals or rubbing motions as they could cause damage to the firearm. 2) lint-free cloths can also be used in place of a dirty cloth when cleaning. Make sure not to use them too often as they will start taking up space in the gunsmith’s toolkit and eventually need to be replaced. 3) Keep all weapons stored separately from each other, preferably away from children and pets. This will help protect against possible accidents caused by firearms being mishandled while in storage.

However there are still some remnants of life here such as an old post office building which functions as a gift store and cafe called "The Gull" which opened in 2009 adjacent to I-95/US 41 junction

Gun cleaning and preservation has been a long-standing tradition in the firearms community. It is no secret that cleanliness is key to preserving firearms, and many experts agree that gun cleaning should be a regular part of firearm owner maintenance. Here we will discuss some of the most common gun cleaning techniques, as well as their history. One of the earliest methods for keeping firearms clean was by use of boiling water or soap. In fact, this method was so effective at removing dirt, dust, and other debris that it became known as “the white wash” or “the scrubbing method.” This process involved vigorously rubbing the firearm with a cloth or piece of paper covered in hot water until all traces of contaminants were removed (Figure 1). The benefit of this technique was that it effectively cleaned both exterior and interior surfaces; however, it required time and effort to complete and resulted in high levels of hand-washing waste. Another early refinementof this cleaning process was called “the blitzing”method which involved rinsing the weapon several times with cold water followed by thorough scrubbing with a cloth (Figure 2). The blitzing procedure also helped remove any dried bloodstains from blades and stocks. Political correctness led to another refinement in the Cleaning Methodology called ‘Wiping Down With A FLannel Towel’ which used two pieces of cloth - one large enough to cover the entire surface beingcleaned and one smaller piece specifically designed to be placed over the barrel on either sideof the weapon (Figure 3). This unusual practice allowed for more even coverage across all surfacesand avoided contact between neighboring objects which could cause dirt, grit, etc., to build up on one sideand form an obstruction on another. The resulting WipeDown method became especially popular among NRA instructors due to its simplicityand relative speed compared to traditional methods such as boiling water or soap application. However, regardlessofthe meritsof this particular approach – its popularity waned after World War II when weapons beganto become increasingly dirty throughout their lifetime cycle due primarily to exposureto oil & gas fumes from manufacturing processes After WWII there were several attemptsby various organizations(NRA included)to develop standard proceduresfor firearm care & preservation including Gun Storage Procedures: 1960 NRA Standard for Firearms Care & Preservation 1961 American Gunsmiths Association Proposal For A Uniform Cleaning Procedure For All Firearms

The history of gun cleaning is vast, but there are some key points to keep in mind. Gun cleaning products have been around for a long time, and the methods used to clean firearms vary greatly. In general though, guns are cleaned by using alcohol or an alkaline cleaner.
