In 1892, John A. Ladd founded the Ladd Rifle and Pistol company in Leesburg, Florida. From its inception until World War I, the company produced a wide variety of rifles and pistols. The rifle line included the Model 1897 (single action), Model 1899 (double action), Model 1901 (automatic), and the Model 1903 (.30-06) cartridge rifle. Additionally, the company produced shotguns and handguns. In 1911, Ladd changed his name to Winchester Repeating Arms Company and began producing cartridges for both rifles and shotguns under that name as well as new ammunition types such as the .410 caliber shell rounds and .22 rimfire rounds. In 1925, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form American Repeating Firearms Company; this was followed by a merger with Browning Arms Corporation in 1938 to form Browning-Hornet firearms manufacturer Incorporated. John Fenton and his family as an agricultural community on the eastern side of Brevard Lake near today's Disneyworld Resort. The name Leesburg derived from Lee (a Creek word meaning "hired man"). The first store in Leesburg was established by J.G. Hoffman and Fenton in 1895 and was operated out of a large barn on present-day Calabasas Road. By 1912, there were five stores in Leesburg with a population of around 100 people each. In 1914, a post office was opened at Leesburg and served until it closed in 1932 due to lack of mail service from Orlando City Hall to the towns along its route. In 1920, Captain Fenton leased land northeast of town on which he built what is now known as Enterprise Park for use as an agriculture center forBrevard County farmers and their families. In 1923, Captain Fenton donated land east of Enterprise Park to become what is nowLake Buena Vista State Park; this donation remains one of the longest continuously donated assets within park boundaries today! As development continued to occur throughout the late 1920s and into the 1930s outside of downtown Leesburg proper – including numerous subdivisions that became major tourist attractions such as Dunedin Lakeside subdivision (now part of Walt Disney World), Pioneer Oaks subdivision, Meadowbrook subdivision etc.–the official name for downtown changed several times: firstly from "Anchor Bay" to "Lake Buena Vista" before finally becoming "Leesburg". During World War II much activity took place within Anchor Bayou southwestern edge park boundaryline extending into current dayLEESBURG . This included barracks used by Naval Officers during training ashore; many aircraft wrecks located offshore including USS Wasp (AO-1) which lay abandoned for over 20 years after being sunk off Cape Canaveral Missile Range; battleship USS Missouri (BB-65) moored alongside amphibious craft Landing Craft Dock 1 & 2 during Operation Neptune's Spear Invasion - event that led to International Bridge building competition between US Military & Spanish Government
