Gun lights have been a part of Leesburg, Florida, for many years. The first gun lights were installed in 1936 by the police department. At that time, there were no city ordinances regulating firearm use and possession. In 1942, the ordinance was passed and became effective. It prohibited the use of firearms in all public places within the city limits. In 1949, a new ordinance was passed which regulated handgun use only within the city limits. This ordinance remained in effect until 1991 when it was repealed due to changes in state law. Since then, gun lights have become an integral part of community life in Leesburg. They are used to guide people during night operations as well as provide illumination during hunting or fishing trips outside the city boundaries. In addition, they are also used by members of local militia groups and other armed detachments whenever necessary to engage in lawful activities inside or outside of the city limits

The Gun Law made it illegal to possess a shotgun or handgun without first getting a license from the county sheriff. It also required gun owners to keep their firearms unloaded and wrapped in plastic wrap when not being used. This law was repealed in 1955 after public outcry against it. However, some people continued to violate the Gun Law until 1967 when new laws were passed that allowed for hunting with shotguns and handguns on private land as long as both individuals knew how to use them safely.
Leesburg is a small town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a cluster of log cabins on an old sugar cane plantation near what is now Leesburg Boulevard and Old US-1 highway. In 1884, the family of Jesse James Byrd bought the plantation and renamed it "Leesburg". The original cabins were replaced by two-story frame houses in 1912. The original post office was established in 1892, and remained in operation until 1954. In 1955, Leesburg became part of the City of Orlando. In 1959, it became a municipality with its own police department; this arrangement continued until 1984 when it was merged into the City of Sanford. The oldest institutions in Leesburg are Stonington Presbyterian Church (founded 1865) and Lamar High School (established 1917). Other early pioneers include Dr John Witherspoon (1869), who founded Jacksonville State Teachers College; Rufus Hargrave Gregg (1871), a Turnpike Commission official from Jacksonville; Jethro Gibbs Bowen (1887), founder of Central Florida Electric Cooperative; Elisha Scudder Barnes (1902), president and first CEO of Hillsborough County Schools System; Augustus Cephus Walton (1905), founder and first chairman of Citrus Bowl Corporation; Harry Southeastern Railway Company foremen Jules Ziegler (1912) and Floyd Noland Jr.(1920); First Methodist Episcopal Church established 1886.; Second Baptist Church organized 1911.; Third Baptist Chapel organized 1922.; Fourth Baptist Chapel organized 1933.-Leesburg features golf courses including Plantation Golf Course built 1928., Seminole Ridge Golf Course built 1937., Clearwater Country Club built 1945., Suncoast Country Club build 1951.-A major commercial center has evolved over time with many businesses located within walking distance such as: Albertsons Grocery store opened 1959., Publix Super Marketsopened 1965., Sears moved to leesburg from Daytona Beach 1962-2003, Disney Store open 1997/1998,, Honda dealership 1977-2002,,,, Samsung Electronics open 2006,,,, Publix also has their headquarters there which is anchored by two high rise buildings that overlooks downtown Leesburgh

In 1957–1958, US Army Air Forces Base Stewart was established here; it closed in 1992 and now forms part of Palm Beach County Airport (Leesburg Municipal Airport). The first high school in Leesburg opened in 1951: Pinecrest High School. In 1835, Leesburg was founded by General James Wilkinson. The town was named after the Lee family who were owners of a farm in what is now the city. In 1915, the United States Postal Service moved its post office from Jacksonville to Leesburg and continued to use that name until 1978.
