Leesburg is a small town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,653 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Leesburg was founded in 1881 by John A. Laughlin and James Fenton. Leesburg is located on State Road 441 (SR 441), about east of I-4 exit 810 and about northwest of SR 528 (the main highway connecting Kissimmee and Sanford). U.S. Route 31 parallels SR 441 for most of its length; however, it turns northeast to cross US 31's path just south of Leesburg before continuing southeast to Romeoville. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,569 people, 515 households, and 367 families residing in the town. The population density was 124 people per square mile (47/km²). There were 653 housing units at an average density of 54 per square mile (21/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99% White European American and 0% African American. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 2% of the population

Leesburg is a town in Marion County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,548 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The land that would become Leesburg was first settled by English colonists in 1694 as "Leesborough". In 1821, it was renamed for General James Lees who had been instrumental in leading American forces to victory over the Seminole Indians. A post office called "Leesborough" was established in 1827 and remained in operation until 1914. In 1881, a group of settlers led by J.B. Cates purchased of land east of downtown Leesburg from Captain John Taggart and erected a cabin on what is now known as Hillcrest Drive. That same year, they opened a store which became one of the most successful businesses in town at that time until it closed its doors in 1906 due to financial troubles brought on by Panicula fever (then called Spanish influenza). A new store building was erected on South Euclid Avenue near Orange Blossom Trail later that year and named after Colonel William Hatton who had donated land for the project. The store operated successfully for many years before finally closing its doors again around 1928 due to economic difficulties caused by Depression-era restrictions on credit availability and interest rates among other factors. During World War II, LEEsburgh served as an important manufacturing center for munitions production being utilized by both USAAF troops stationed here and local allies such as the British Armed Forces; during this time the community saw significant growth with many new homes being constructed including two high schools - Central High School (now known as University High School) and Miami Senior High School - addition of several churches and a number of restaurants/bars followed soon thereafter making Leesburg one of America's most popular small towns during this time period despite some hiccups along the way such as an early example of racial discrimination when white people refused to hire black employees because they felt these individuals would not be able to do their jobs effectively; however overall LEEsburgh continued to thrive with its citizens working hard day and night providing essential services necessary for those living within its boundaries while also giving back through volunteerism, charitable donations or simply spending their free time helping others achieve anything they may desire including becoming involved with their community whenever possible either through involvement with civic / religious organizations or simply lending an ear if needed!
