Lauderhill, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida. It was founded on September 15th, 1892 by J.P. Lauder and his family. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the nearby Miami-Dade airport and its proximity to phosphate mines. In 1927, Lauderhill became the county seat of Polk County aftermoving from Vero Beach. The growth of Lauderhill led to the development of a large city around it which still exists today as the largest concentration of Hispanics in Southwest Florida. Lauderhill's rich history can be found in its numerous businesses and institutions that have played a significant role in local culture and economy over the years: The J.P. Lauder Company was one of South Florida's earliest commercial entities with operations beginning in 1892 at 4609 NW 2nd Street in Lauderdale Lakes outside of Tampa Bay until 1916 when it moved to 1425 Dixie Highway (now US 1) west of downtown Miami for its new manufacturing plant known as “The Factory” which produced telescopes for American museums such as New York City's Museum of Natural History and Philadelphia's Franklin Institute starting in 1915 under license from then-President Theodore Roosevelt who had acquired an interest in these institutions through his Purchase land purchase from David Starr Jordan

Lauderhill, Florida is one of the most beautiful small towns in America. It has a rich history that goes back to when it was first settled by American Indians. In 1835, General Andrew Jackson decided to move the United States military from New Orleans to what is now Lauderhill. He named the town after Sir George Lauder, a Scottish general who had fought in the Mexican-American War and served as governor of Texas. The people of Lauderhill started to build their own homes in what is now downtown in 1837. By 1886, the population of Lauderhill had grown to over 4,000 people and it became a city on December 1st of that year. The first mayor of Lauderhill was Joseph A. Manton and he held office for three years until he was replaced by John Cavanaugh. In 1915, Mayor Cavanaugh was replaced by Harry Wirtz and he held office for six years before his death in 1925. During Wirtz’s tenure, many new businesses were established such as J.C Penney Department Store and Currier & Ives Department Store which are still active today! On July 26th of 1957, Hurricane Flora hit Lauderdale County and intense damage occurred throughout the town including some structures that were destroyed! After being through two hurricanes within a few months, Lauderhill beganrowth process with high-density housing development beginning in earnest during Wirtz’s term! By 1971, there were over 10,000 people living in downtown while other parts of town experienced increased congestion due to continued growth! However, during Mayor Marlin Stutzman’s time (1974-1978), things changed dramatically as progress stalled and crime spiked! Finally becoming an official municipality on November 3rd of 1978 – after more than 20 years – following Stutzman’s resignation – City Manager Don Wiseman took office! Wiseman would continue struggles with crime and economic decline until his retirement on October 15th of 2001!!! In recent years there have been numerous attempts at revitalization but all have failed; unfortunately this bodes poorly for future growth prospects!!

In 1912, Lauderhill hosted the first international beauty pageant ever held in Florida when Miss Universe Alice Paul competed against American beauties like Whitney Houston and Dolores Crawford at the Lauderdale Auditorium on South Beach Boulevard. Lauderhill experienced some significant growth during World War II when many of its businesses became involved in munitions production or helped support military efforts such as supplying ammunition to Allied forces across Europe. The population peaked at over 20,000 during World War II but declined after the war ended and has only slightly increased since then. During recent times, Lauderhill has been experiencing some resurgence with several new businesses starting up and residents returning to their old homes and businesses here.
