Lauderhill is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It is located on the north shore of Biscayne Bay and has a population of about 33,000. The town was founded in 1881 by German immigrants, and most of its current buildings date from the late 19th century. Lauderhill's first gun store was opened in 1892. In 1907, it became the first city in Miami-Dade County to issues municipal identification cards carrying permits to purchase firearms. In 1962, Lauderhill became one of only two cities (the other being Ft Lauderdale) within Miami-Dade County to issue driver's licenses with Firearms Licenses attached. In 1978, Lauderhill established itself as an international center for shooting safety instruction and rifle/shotgun seasonings. The following year it also became home to the world's second "Shooting Range Master Class" event - a three-day course that provided shooters with everything they need to become proficient at firing pistols and rifles at distances up to 100 yards (75 meters). The community has continued to support shooting through events such as its annual golf tournament and fireworks show during Fourth of July week. In recent years, some have suggested that Lauderhill should consider becoming a municipally owned park where all citizens are free to shoot without having to obtain special permits or pay fees

Lauderhill is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Lauderhill were traders from Georgia in 1795 and 1796. They named the area "Lauderdale" after Lord Lauderdale, British Ambassador to Spain at the time. In 1821, Colonel John Lauder bought 8 square miles (20 km²) of land east of Tampa on US 27 for $1,000USD. He built a small cabin and named it "Meadowbrook". A post office called Meadowbrook was established in 1827 and closed in 1889. In 1830, Colonel John Lauder's son-in-law James Pogue purchased 3 acres (10 ha) north of Meadowbrook for $200USD. Pogue renamed it "Pinecrest" and began building homes there in 1833 as his seasonal home while he served as governor of Florida under Andrew Jackson. The town got its name from General George Washington's plantation on which Pinecrest stood - until that property was sold to another group in 1848 by then Governor Rufus King for $2 million USD. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Confederate forces destroyed most of Fort Brooke near present day downtown Lauderhill during their attack on Tampa Heights on July 26th 1861 despite being repelled by Union troops under General Winfield Scott who had arrived two days earlier with 5500 men including cavalry units commanded by Brigadier General David Dickson and Major General August Belknap Hancock A monument still stands today commemorating this event which is located off I-4 exit 322 southbound just past Gulfstream Park Road between US 98/SR 191/James Moseley Boulevard exit 4A and SR 347/Derek Jeter Boulevard exit 6B
Lauderhill was founded in 1868 as a small town in the Hillsborough area of Tampa, Florida. It grew rapidly through annexation by Tampa and then by Sarasota County. In 1925, Lauderdale County was established and Lauderhill became its county seat. The community experienced rapid growth during World War II thanks to the military presence in the area. The economy began to decline after the war, but has since recovered.
