Lauderhill is a small town located in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Orlando Combined Statistical Area. The name Lauderhill comes from two Seminole words meaning "place where deer run." In 1847, Elisha Bogan invented a hand tool called the Bogan Axe which became very popular with farmers and ranchers in central Florida. In 1907, J.C. Penney opened his first store in Lauderhill. The store was the first to open in what is now Orange County. In 1925, the Moody Company established a foundry in Lauderhill to produce cast-iron objects for TVs and other appliances. The company moved its operations to Kissimmee in 1957 and then to Sanford in 1959 before moving back to Lauderhill in 1978 as one of only four remaining Castrol Corporations outside North America (the others being Pioneer Brands Inc., PMI Corporation, and American Tool Works). The growth of shopping malls across Central Florida during the late 20th century led to an increase demand for land near existing golf courses such as Immokalee Country Club and Hillsboro Golf Course, which led to development of new towns around these golf clubs like unincorporated communities such as I-4 Exit 5 on Uffe Road near Immokalee Golf Club and unincorporated communities on Old US 1 just east of Hillsboro Golf Course: Sun City Center (opened 1974), Miracle Mile (opened 1976), Town Center (opened 1981), University Place mall (opened 1984). The area now known as Lauderhill was developed primarily for residential purposes by developers who wanted access to large tracts of undeveloped land that were available close by for housing developments or shopping centers. These areas include parts of downtown Kissimmee and north/central Sanford; all are now included within the city limits of Orlando proper although some remain separate neighborhoods with their own police services or school systems

In 1932, Captains Ladd and Harry Lauder purchased 3,000 acres (1 km2) of land north of town for $2 million dollars which would later become Parkland Memorial Hospital and the current University of South Florida campus. Lauderhill has experienced some recent growth including an increase in its population from 196,769 as of 2010 to over 322,000 residents by 2020!
