Lauderhill, Florida was founded by the Morrill family in 1848. The Morrill family were farmers who had moved to Lauderdale County from New York State. They started a grocery store and farm stand in what is now the central business district of Lauderhill. In 1875, they built a grist mill on their land and started manufacturing holsters for the market. The company grew rapidly and by 1907, it had its own factory in North Lauderdale. Holster manufacturing continued to be a major part of the company’s operations until the early 1960s when it became majority-owned by Remington Arms Company. holster manufacture declined thereafter but Holster Brands continues to operate as a subsidiary ofRemington Firearms Company.

The present day City of Lauderhill was established on November 3, 1959 when it amalgamated with the neighboring towns of Fort Pierce and Miami Beach. As an agricultural center during its early years, Lauderdale Hills employed hundreds of men and women who raised crops and hayed hay for local market demand until World War II when the economy shifted to tourism and manufacturing due to military stationed in South Florida at that time including Boeing Airplanes and General Motors plants then located hereabouts (now Alliant Techsystems). In 1957-1958 Drs James Jekyll & Walter Hines developed "The Highlands" which included many new homes since it would be their last project before retiring from practicing medicine full-time (they had already retired from practice at age 70). With this new development came increased political power for Lauderdale Hills residents as they now could vote not only within their own municipality but also within Palm Beach County limits! In 1978 Drs Jekyll & Hines finally sold their holdings in "The Highlands" too retirement couldn't keep them living there any longer so they moved into THEIR old home until they died suddenly aged 92yrs/7 months later! Today Longwood Health System operates outpatient clinics as well as child care centers across Broward county while Candler School District provides preK through 12th grade education with over 1400 students grades PreK through 8th grade; four high schools; one technical school; two Baptist churches; numerous grocery stores/supermarkets along with mostall other services needed by our citizens including water softeners etc.? The economy of Lauderhill has diversified over time with some businesses including real estate agents; car dealerships; restaurants; medical centers; golf courses; manufacturing plants; service companies; etc., but many have closed or moved away over time because of economic conditions or competition from other towns in South Florida or throughout America
