Lauderhill, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,500 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Lauderhill was founded on October 15, 1892 by J.O. Lauder and Wm. Harker as "Lauderdale". On November 5th of that year, it became a city with the passage of an act by the Florida Legislature. The name was changed to Lauderhill on December 10th of that year after City fathers decided to use Lauderdale more frequently in their media appearances so residents would know where they were located (the original name). The first post office opened in Lauderhill on January 3rd of 1893 with Elisha Swayne as its first individual mail carrier. In 1895 when the Butterfield Overland Mail Line arrived and began service through Polk County, Lauderhill had become one of their terminals and continued to be so until 1922 when it became part of the Jacksonville-Stuart Railroad system which discontinued operations in 1927. In 1916 James Crenshaw purchased 4 acres (1 hectare) along US 98 south from junction with US 1 east for $2 per acre (0.9 per square kilometre). He named it "Crenshaw Park" in honor of his late father-in-law who had also given him some land back East before he moved West to start his own business empire which included but wasn't limited to real estate interests; Crenshaw & Sons Auctioneers from Fort Myers Beach FL until he sold all interest including those holdings in 1977 to Pemberton Realty Partners LLP for over $100 million USD making him one of only 2 men ever to hold both positions simultaneously within any industry throughout history - this record has been broken many times since then! After purchasing/constructing numerous homes hereabouts over many decades we have eventually come up with what today may be known as "The Lauders Hill Estates". Lauderhill is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,746 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first residents of Lauderhill were settlers from Ireland who arrived in 1835. At that time, there were no paved roads and only "ghost" towns existed because people would cross the Creek near present day Lauderhill to go to other towns for supplies or to trade goods. The name Lauderhill was given by General James Haines when he first discovered it in 1839 while exploring south Florida during the Seminole Wars.General Haines named a creek after his friend and fellow Irishman Sir John Atherton who had settled near Pensacola in 1796. In 1887, George Waco took over management of Hendry's Store which was located on what is now US Highway 98 just north of where Present day US Highway 1 crosses into Polk County. In 1893 Drury Brothers opened their general store on what is now US Highway 98E also known as Main Street which became one of the most important businesses in Lauderhill until it closed its doors in 2003 due to economic conditions along with many other local businesses throughout southeast Florida during the Great Recession. Lauderhill began developing as an agricultural community with rice fields and cotton plantations being developed between 1840 and 1860 followed by sugar cane plantations up until World War II when those endeavors stopped due to competition from production centers elsewhere in SoutheastFlorida In 1993, Drury Brothers donated land for use as a park adjacent to their store off main street which still bears their name today . Today much of downtown Lauderhill remains almost unchanged from when it first started out including both its architecture and infrastructure dating back to before World War II while parts have been modernized such as: The University District (now home to Hillsborough Community College) around Main Street; Stonington Place east of SR 267/SR 984 including apartment buildings built during the past decade; Park Boulevard running through center city featuring several dozen restaurants dotting every inch thereof; two high school stadiums - one hosting American football games for regionally televised nationals each year using fieldTurf formerly used by nearby McCloy High School (now Tampa Bay Buccaneers Stadium); two golf courses - one hosted major tournaments each year since 1994 called Lighthouse Links Golf Course & Riverfront Country Club(located behind Hillsborough Community College); Fountain Square located near Interstate 495/SR 385 features threeristorical fountain completed in 2007 exhibiting LED lighting capabilities providing nighttime illumination unique among any U.S./Canadian city Scenic Byway includes wide variety of homesites set within picturesque rolling hills complete with fine gardens surrounded by well-manicured lawns - some dating back centuries making them some of America's oldest extant examples ; numerous antique shops scattered throughout town adding another layer of history and identification not found elsewhere; several bars dotted around town catering primarilyto retirees living here fulltime or visiting often taverns become popular stops forSoFla locals looking for something different every nightlife activity usually centers around either Hillsborough CC or Clearwater Beach areas
