During World War II, Lauderhill played an important role as a supply base for Allied forces fighting Nazi Germany. The town's football team was known as the "Hammersmiths" because many local businesses donated goods such as shoes and clothing to help support military efforts. After the war ended, business began to decline; however, growth resumed after stimulus programs were put into place by then-Mayor Bob Schlesinger. By 2000, there were more than 10 thousand residents within downtown Lauderhill limits while also sprawling out across several residential areas including Northwood Village off State Road 7 east of I-95/I-10 highway exit 316B; Sunrise Manor west of SR 7 east of US1/SR 152 international road exit 5A; Loch Raven Ridge north of US 1 off SR 152 international road exit 5B; Dogpatch east off I-95/I-10 highway exit 316A

However, many people continue to live in Lauderhill because its close proximity to major shopping malls and other cultural attractions
Lauderhill was founded in 1853 by a group of Englishmen who were looking for a place to settle after leaving the British Isles. The town was named after Sir John Lauder, who had purchased land near Miami in 1828. The first settlers arrived in small groups and built their homes around a Surveyor's Grid system, which remains in use today. By 1860, the population had grown to about 100 people and the town began to develop its own infrastructure, such as a school and courthouse. In 1865, Lauderdale County was created from parts of Miami-Dade County and Lauderdale was given the status of a county seat. The early years of Lauderhill were difficult due to lack of resources and competition from other towns in the area. However, through effort and hard work, Lauderhill slowly emerged as one of South Florida's leading communities. In 1935, Lauderdale County approved an ordinance that allowed Forney Motors Corporation to build a factory on Broward Boulevard just east of town. This event led to rapid growth within the community and helped create what is now known as Forney Park Avenue. In recent years, Lauderhill has experienced some significant growth both within itself and throughout South Florida. In 2015, it became home to South Florida's only ever professional eSports arena - The Esports Arena - which has seen success hosting some high-profile events such as MLG World Finals and Intel Extreme Masters Korea II. Additionally, over $2 million has been invested into redeveloping downtown since 2013 which has led to increased business opportunities for residents and businesses alike.
