The City of Lauderhill was founded on October 15th, 1922 and was named after Harry Lauder who was the founder of the Miami Dolphins football team. In 1938, the city annexed part of Broward County to form its own municipality (Lauderhill). On December 1st, 1969, Lauderhill became an incorporated city with a population of over 150,000. It is home to many businesses and industries including engineering and manufacturing companies such as Litton Industries and Pratt & Whitney. Lauderhill is a small town located in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville area. Lauderhill is named for lawyer and politician George Lauder (1822-1900), who represented Duval County in the Florida House of Representatives from 1868 to 1870 and again from 1876 to 1880. Lauderhill was founded by General James Ewing in 1847 as a farming community near present-day Key West. He named it after his friend and colleague, George Lauder, Sr., an American lawyer and member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1868 to 1870 and again from 1876 to 1880. The first post office was established in 1848, and first settlers arrived in 1850. A sawmill was built here in 1861; however, it failed within a year due to high costs associated with construction. A store opened on North Main Street in 1865; this business served as the nucleus around which what would become Lauderhill developed over time. The first school may have been open as early as 1851 but no record exists thereof; however, it is likely that early schooling began soon thereafter given that there were already some children living here by then! In 1865, Sister Laura de Lourdes provided instruction for girls’ schools when she moved into town from New York City with her Sisters of Charity seeking to improve education opportunities for underprivileged girls throughout Southeast Florida In 1886 Drs Hannah Arendt organized a nurses’ colony which became known as “The Girls” because they taught health care classes for women working for white families during Reconstruction era America A church also began services here beginning on September 21st 1886 by Revd James Fenton who had come acrossDrs Arendt’s letter appealing for help among black Americans displaced during Reconstruction . That same year John Swayne offered land east of Old Post Road for settlement which led to incorporation on December 15th 1889 A schoolhouse/church building was erected on North Main Street between 1893 and 1895 Reverend JFenton donated land north of US1 where he built an addition now housing the library . This two story wood frame structure served as both schoolhouse and pastorage until 1905 when Rev G C Steele replaced him That same year Father Duffy started teaching Sunday School here while also providing religious instruction at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church nearby MrsE L Plante operated a grocery store on Third Avenue adjacent to old post road before moving out west across I-95 towards St Augustine .. On February 20th 1912 Mr W H Smith purchased property just south of Old Post Road which included future site OF THE UNITED STATES CAPITAL MALL Located today just east off State Road 98 en route to Jupiter
