Lauderhill is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 34,424 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Lauderhill was founded by Scots settlers in 1881 as a farming community on the east side of what is now Northwest Sixth Avenue and Northwest Seventh Street. In 1886, the post office was moved to Lauderhill from Overtown and became known as "The Junction". In 1907, Lauderdale Road was established as a road from Broward County through Lauderhill to Homestead Heights in Dania Beach. In 1924, Lauderdale Road became US 1 when it was upgraded from a local road to Interstate 10. In 1930, fire destroyed many of the homes in downtown Lauderhill and much of its commercial district; only about 60% of its original buildings remain today. However, since then much redevelopment has taken place with new stores opening up and oldttes being rehabilitated or replaced with more modernized structures. In recent decades there have been several large projects undertaken by Lauder Hill such as The Parkway which connects all three municipalities (Lauderdale Hills/Lauderhill/Miami), Project Lighthouse which redevelops an abandoned lighthouse into a mixed use complex including condos/apartments/retail store on top and provides public access below for pedestrians and cyclists (which also includes an amphitheater), Park Boulevard which links Trail Ridge Golf Course with Dolphin Stadium (now home to American Airlines Arena) on one side and Pompano Beach regional park on the other while also providing easy access to I-95 southbound from Trail Ridge Golf Course; Allendale Way which crosses I-95 just north of Park Boulevard between Rickenbacker International Airport Drive and Business Loop 524 N; Andover Place which is located off Commercial Drive near Indian River Lagoon beaches; Adam Clayton Powell Jr.'s Alma Mater School - A private school for students grades 7-12 that opened in 1990 adjacent to Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport after land donated by Mrs Phillips along with surrounding acreage has been used for aviation maintenance storage yards since World War II . In 2007–2008 there were multiple fires across Miami-Dade County due to arson: two small fires near Little Havana schoolyards where children were playing before halftime of a high school football game resulting in no injuries but causing extensive damage ($5 million damage estimate); another small fire at an elementary school west of Hard Rock Casino Resort casino where candy bars had melted down during third grade science class resulting in $2 million damage estimate; this led to increased security measures around schools across Miami-Dade County
Lauderhill, Florida was founded in 1836 by Colonel John Lauderhill. The community was originally known as Orange Hill and is located on the east side of Fort Myers between Jackie Robinson Boulevard and I-4. In 1865, the town was renamed for James A. Lauderhill, a United States senator from Florida who had been instrumental in helping to create the state of Florida. The city's first mayor was James Dickey.
