Lauderhill is a small town in Florida, located about 25 miles north of the city of Tampa. The population was 2,551 at the 2010 census. Lauderhill is part of the Hillsborough County metropolitan area and is considered a high-income community. It is also home to two Naval Air Station squadrons and one military base. Lauderhill was founded in 1892 by farmers J.H. Lauder and his wife Lucille Means, who named it after Lauderdale County in Alabama where they had been born. In 1912, the town became its own municipality with a population of just over 100 people. In 1925, Lauderhill annexed the towns of Plantation and Clearwater Beach to form a new municipality with a population of 3,500 people. The annexation caused some controversy because Clearwater Beach was outside the town boundaries while Plantation was within the bounds of Lauderdale County but without an elected mayor or council as are present in other municipalities within Hillsborough County with similar boundaries (e.g., Tampa). In 1957, Lauderhill merged with neighbouring Miami to form what is now known as Miami-Dade County . The merger created many problems for both communities due to their different demographics and political structures (the county government originated from Miami). For example, Lauderhill had no representation onbroward commission which made decisions about land use or public services; Miami had more politicians who could grant concessions from developers seeking business growth in their neighbourhoods . The problems continued into the 1960s when both communities began experiencing significant economic development that did not trickle down to residents living near important highway intersections like US 1 and I-75; instead these developments attracted large numbers of professional workers who commuting into downtownMiami generated large amounts of traffic noise which impacted residents’ quality of life outside their homes
Lauderhill was founded in 1892 by John Lauder, Sr. and his son John Lauder Jr. It became a city in 1907 and was incorporated as a municipality in 1912. In 1928, it became a county seat of Broward County.
