In 2000, the population had increased to 5,611 due largely to migration from other areas within Broward County as well as annexation of neighboring towns such as Pompano Beach and Sunrise Gardens since 2000. Lauderdale Lakes is one of several municipalities served by Lauderdale Lakes Police Department which opened on May 1st 2006 with full uniformed officers complementing existing police units for service within Loop 610 interchange area including I-95 The Superdome Area . Other law enforcement services offered include street patrols throughout residential neighborhoods; DUI road patrols; animal control; censuses/polls (including immunization drives); fire prevention/ suppression; Homeland Security exercises (i.e., bomb threat drills) According to the 2010 American Community Survey conducted by NORC Center for Public Affairs Research at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 31% of residents are Hispanic or Latino while 54% identify themselves as white alone or black alone
