At that time, there were only two businesses in Lauderdale Lakes – a blacksmith shop and an agricultural store run by John Lippy and his sons Pappy and Bud]. A mill was built in 1908 by E H Woodruff for grinding corn to be used for flour for the local grocery store chain operated by D C White & Co.. By 1912, there were six stores operating in Lauderdale Lakes with a population of 2,000 people; four churches (Anglican, Methodist Episcopal, Presbyterian) plus one Baptist church had been established since 1884; three schools (grades K-12); seven farms; one doctor’s office; one jail (1886); one hotel/motel (1907), all operated by private enterprise or government contract under various names including First American Hotel Company (1895), Gulf Stream Hotel Company (1910), Old Fort Motel Company(1911), Atlantic Coast Hotel Company (1920), Baldwin Hotels Incorporated(1924). In 1927 when it merged with Pensacola proper to form Pensacola–Tallahassee–Lawrenceville Metropolitan Statistical Area (), Lauderdale Lakes became another component community within this larger area known as “The Magic City” due to its rapidly growing economy and increasing numbers of residents attracted thereto from other parts of Florida during the 1920s through 1930s thanks to federal funds available through the Works Progress Administration (). In 1958 it reverted back to its original name when its annexation into Lawrenceville occurred but has continued use as Lauderdale Lakes ever since then despitegrowning populations elsewhere within Pensacola-Tallahassee-Lawrenceville Metro Statistical Area (). As early as 1910 however some city leaders felt that given that much else had changed within Lauderdal lakes during those years such as annexations etc., that perhaps their initial designation should reflect that more than just shops & restaurants might have been housed here viz: "A Place Of Character"??????? Only time will tell if/how this Town rename reflects concrete changes since then…..

Lauderdale Lakes was established in 1868 when the Miami and Erie Railroad built a line from Miami to Fort Lauderdale. The first store, called the Beaumont store, opened in 1870. In 1915, the name of the town changed to Sunrise after sunrise each morning when the railway reached Sunrise Station. The name change came about because until then it had been further east than Sunrise Station. In 1925, Lauderdale Lakes annexed Parkland County and in 1928 it annexed Boca Raton County. On October 1, 2006, Broward County annexation followed which made Lauderdale Lakes an unincorporated county within Broward County. Lauderdale Lakes is located on State Road 615 south of I-95 between Deerfield Beach and Plantation Passions neighborhoods on its eastern border with Boca Raton County; it borders Lauderhill to its west and Coral Springs to its north-northeast. It has a total area of , making it one of Floridas' smallest towns by land area but with a population of over 22,000 people as of 2009 according to US Census Bureau figures released that year . The town was founded by developers who wanted to make their home near Fort Lauderdale so they could commute daily into that city for work or shopping however development never occurred due to lack of funding or interest from these individuals or businesses until after World War II when large tracts were developed adjacent to Interstate 95 due primarilyto military housing needs during that time period especially along I-95's corridor through South Florida

It experienced another resurgence in the late 1990s and 2000s thanks to new development along Interstate 4 and other improvements to the local transportation infrastructure.
