Lauderdale Lakes is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lauderdale Lakes is about an hour's drive from downtown Tampa and its sister city of Saint Petersburg. The first permanent settler in Lauderdale Lakes was Abram Davenport, who arrived in 1837. He named his new community after Lauderdale Creek in North Carolina because that's where he had been born and raised. In 1841, John Worth moved to Lauderdale Lakes from Jacksonville and founded Worth & Worth Mercantile Company which carried on until 1865 when it merged with another Jacksonville business, Pemberton & Sons furriers. In 1881, Wm Fenton bought land near present-day Lauderdale Lakes for $3 per acre and began developing it into a township under the name "Lauderdale." By 1903 there were over 100 residents living in Lauderdale Lakes Township limits – 50 percent of whom were farmers or mechanics engaged in agriculture or manufacturing goods for local markets. By 1910 there were only 12 residents living within the Township boundaries; all but one of these lived outside the Township limits within Polk County or Clearwater County (where they prospered as entrepreneurs). The influx of people during World War II created many jobs for locals in munitions production and other industries such as shipbuilding and aircraft assembly; however, most residents lost their jobs during the war years as production switched to wartime exports instead of domestic production. The post-war recession hit Lauderdale Lakes hard with business activity dropping by half between 1945 and 1957; accordingly, population growth slowed to 1 percent annually through 1970%. However, since then population growth has averaged 2 percent annually which has led to increased development around town including several high-rise housing developments dating back to the early 1990s when demand for space became ever more pronounced due to increasing suburban populations around town center along I-275/State Road 785 (the current M1 highway). Today still many people live close to work while others commute into nearby Tampa or Saint Petersburg each day for work or pleasure purposes depending on their interests or needs

The area became part of the United States in 1821 when Florida gained its statehood. The city of Lauderdale Lakes began to grow rapidly during World War II, thanks to the military base that was established here. After the war, the city continued to grow as a result of new development and annexation by other municipalities. In 1978, Lauderdale Lakes became an incorporated municipality and has since grown significantly into its present form.
