In 2002, Sheriff Majerus signing an ordinance increasing the number of handgun licensees from 2 to 6 per municipality. This increase increased gun-related violence and made it more difficult for potential criminals to obtain guns without being detected by law enforcement. The current trend in Lauderdale Lakes is towards pistol permit holders engaging in open carry as opposed to hide-and-seek tactics used by criminals who are not successful in achievingpermits outside of their jurisdictional limits
Lauderdale Lakes is a small community in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Hollywood metropolitan area. Lauderdale Lakes was founded in 1905 by Captain Edwin H. Lauderdale and his wife Emma Walton Lauderdale as a resort town on the banks of Lake Kissimmee. The original name for the community was "Pinecrest". In 1927, Captain Edwin H. Lauderdale donated land to make into an open-air shopping mall that included a large department store and movie theater called Regal Cinemas which remains open to this day. It also includes two golf courses - one being made public and one being privately owned - as well as a number of restaurants and bars including The Ritz-Carlton restaurant which opened in 1977 and still serves breakfast until 2pm daily. In 1984, Regal Cinemas went out of business and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy; however, it reopened under new management within 8 months with much higher attendance levels due to its return to profitability. Today's incarnation of Regal Cinemas features over 150 movies screens across three floors with 3D technology throughout the entire building providing an immersive experience for moviegoers not only during film screenings but also after each movie has ended! On top of all this excitement there are occasional performances from local orchestras or blues bands that play at various venues around town during summertime concerts series known as “The Bluegrass Series” having originated back in 1978 when then Mayor Buddy Dyer implemented $5 million towards concert preservation funding from then Governor Reubens..
