Gun security has been a topic of discussion for many years in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. One of the earliest known incidents involving firearms occurred on November 3, 1923 when two gunmen entered the Lighthouse restaurant and shot nine people, including the owner, into eternity. Gun violence in Broward County increased petitio nously in the 1920s and 1930s as Prohibition repealed made it more difficult to purchase alcohol. Gangsters began using shotguns to commit robberies and murder. In 1934, the state legislature passed a bill that imposed stricter gun control measures following the shooting of Congressman Robert Kennedy at Regency Farms outside of Miami Gardens. The NRA opposed this law because it would have made it harder for citizens to buy weapons and ammunition. The NRA lobbied successfully to repeal this bill in 1935. On January 14, 1942, an unlicensed individual purchased three pistols from a Jacksonville licensed firearms dealer and fired them at least five times inside Joplin's Bar & Cafe in Lauderdale Lakes without causing injury or damage. This event is generally considered to be one of the first shootings committed with handguns in Broward County. On October 5th 1947 a gunman killed four people at Weiser Drugstore near Coconut Creek after firing several rounds from his rifle into the storeroom ceiling; he then exited through a back door and gunned down another victim on foot before fleeingthe scene. On December 16th 1949 two gunmen walked into Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings’ home at 7200 NW 8th Avenue with guns drawn while Rawlings was alone inside; both assailants were killed by Kinnan’s husband who awoke from sleep to find them holding his wife hostage until police arrived! On February 22nd 1951 an armed robber stormed into Nellie Mae Gossage’s home at 12381 NW 2nd Street wearing nothing but pants with a “Tommy GUN” sticker on each hip; he fired several shots into her living room before escaping through her front window with cash and her car! That same year also saw one of Broward County’s most infamous crimes: The Fort Myers Shooting which took place when six gunmen stormed into Bob Schieffer's grocery store located on US 1 just south of Stonington without warning employees or customers; all six shooters were killed except for Schieffer who was critically injured (he survived). At least 33 persons were wounded during this rampage including twelve women who were pregnant at the time! The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2014 caused mass hysteria across the United States after 20 children were killed by Adam Lanza while attending school in Newtown, Connecticut. After this tragedy, many communities began implementing measures such as armed guards at schools and increased surveillance footage around schools

Lauderdale Lakes, Florida is a small town in Broward County, Florida. It is located on the western border of the Miami-Dade county area and is bordered by Kendallville to the north, Plantation to the east, Hollywood to the south and west, and Weston to the northwest. The name Lauderdale Lakes comes from two different sources: one source suggests that it was named for Lauderdale River which flows through this area; another suggests that it was named after Lauderdale plantation where John Fenton built a home in 1839. The first residence in Lauderdale Lakes was built on what is now Northwest Drive in 1922. The population of Lauderdale Lakes peaked in 1925 at 1,500 people but has since declined somewhat due to various factors such as suburbanization and loss of jobs in related industries. In recent years there have been efforts made by some residents to revive the community with revived cultural programs such as art shows and music festivals. In 1897 an act was passed providing for township organization within Broward County; however, no action was taken until 1912 when commissioners were appointed by county president Harry Hirschfield. On July 1, 1914 a resolution authorizing annexation of Kendallville Township (then called Plantation) by Lauderdale Lakes became effective; however, no annexation happened because Kendallville had not voted to join Broward County yet. On October 15th 1920 according to history books "the first school opened its doors under auspices of Mrs Louella Bogan" who ran a daycare center at Northwest Drive near today's Walmart store which served students grades K-12 from 1922-1927 before disbanding because families could not afford tuition costs or enough space at their homes for children during those days when schools operated out of private homes/kindergartens instead of public buildings like they do currently! In 1926 Gussie Madden donated land on Southside Drive NW corner lot from her home across Sunrise Highway from Mrs Louella Bogan’s house so that schoolchildren could come play outside during lunch recess! That same year Julius Kapp donated land on East Side Dr just south of Today’s Walmart store along Sunrise Highway opposite Jackie Robinson Park! Mr Cogswell contributed much more land donations over time including property located between Southwest Parkway and Sunrise Hwy., east side lot between Sunrise Hwy & Willow Lawn Rd., SW corner lot between Willoughby Rd & Sunrise Hwy., NW corner lot w/Today’s Walmart store…. all these donations helped make possible our wonderful School System today….. Today we have over 350 students attending 9th – 12th grade levels!!!!!!!!! These are beautiful memories we take with us every day!!!
