It has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,919 people, 1,068 households, and 711 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 524.1 people per square mile (220.2/km²). There were 1,145 housing units at an average density of 281.3/sq mi (115.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 83% White; 15% Black or African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8%of the population

Lauderdale Lakes is a census-designated place in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,753 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Dade metropolitan area. The name Lauderdale Lakes comes from Lake Lauderdale, a natural body of water that forms part of the border between Broward and Miami counties. The community was founded in 1925 by developers J.W. Marriott and Hapgood Allman as a planned city with lakes, golf courses, and other recreational amenities on one side of the lake while development took place on the other side along Pembroke Road. The city was abandoned in 1957 when its main water supply dried up and it became necessary to build Interstate 95 through Broward County instead. The community's current name was given to it by then-Broward County Commissioner James Alesi after he purchased land adjoining Lauderdale Lakes for $1 million in 1984. By 1990, all development had stopped due to lack of funding and only a small number of homes remained standing; however, Alesi revived interest in the community by purchasing additional land adjacent to his original purchase for $5 million which he plans to use as an open-air park with basketball courts, fishing ponds, playgrounds and businesses located within walking distance of each other. As more people moved into Lauderdale Lakes over time they began their own businesses which have continued to grow even today; some examples include Rickshaw & Taxi Company which has been operational since 1975 and Sunoco who opened their first gasoline station within walking distance of Lauderdale Lakes in 1998.
