Largo, Florida is a small town located in Palm Beach County,Florida. The population of Largo was just over 10,000 at the time of its incorporation in 1907. The first store in Largo was a grocery store and post office on Washington Avenue. In 1916, the town had two stores and one hotel. In 1927, the Largo Chamber of Commerce built the first high school in Palm Beach County. The first library was also built that year. The first hospital in Largo was a mental hospital on State Road A1A which opened in 1928 and served as the county jail until it closed in 1971. It is now used as an apartment complex called Sunrise Manor. In 1951, Largo had its own electric department which became known as the “Largos Electric Department”. In 1976, the town received power from Lake Worth Power Company which provided electricity for all businesses within city limits for $2 per month per household[1]. In 1984-1985, Largo hosted the United States Open Golf Championship which took place at Suncoast Country Club & Spa (now Atlantis Resort). The championship event attracted some of professional golf’s top players including Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson[2].

Largo is located on State Road 925 east of Pensacola and west ofus-Escambia County line. The area now known as Largo was first settled by Alachua (Creek) Indians in 1793. The name came from an old Spanish word meaning "a place where the trees grow." A post office called Largo was established in 1827, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1890, a sawmill and gristmill were built near present day Largo Boulevard and US 95; these mills continue to operate today. In 1902, oil Well No. 2 was drilled in what is now Largo by Standard Oil Company; this well later became known as the Gulfstream Field because it produced oil for the airline industry during World War II. At that time, most of Escambia County was rural and agricultural; however, some areas such as Pensacola began to experience rapid growth due to new industrial development which stimulated real estate speculation throughout the region. In 1907, Congress passed an act providing for creation of municipalities within Escambia County; Largo became one of these municipalities on July 1st of that year. Largo experienced significant growth during World War I when many shipyards were constructed along State Road 925 between Pensacola and Key West; these yards produced munitions such as tanks and planes for the war effort. After hostilities ended in 1918, many businesses closed their doors because there was no demand for their products after the war ended – this period is often referred to as "the lost decade." However, when tourism boomed following World War II with American troops stationed overseas (such as those who served at nearby Guantanamo Bay), businesses began to reopen again all across Escambia County thanks to Interstate 10 connecting Pensacola with both Tampa Bay and Jacksonville via Tallahassee; this created a market for luxury items from Southern Florida which had hitherto been inaccessible to outsiders! Since then, much has changed around MPK: New homes have been built downtown since 2002 (!); high school students are starting classes now instead of going off campus...and old mill buildings are being converted into condos/apts/orchards etc.; but best thing about it all? People keep forgetting why they moved here
